The purpose of this study was to compare the expectations as to the role and function of the country school superintendent of schools in California as perceived by county school superintendents and four of their referent groups. Purpose. The problem of this study was to present the history of intercollegiate athletics at Milligan College from 1887-1973. Method. Both primary and secondary sources were used in gaining knowledge of the history of sports. Interviews were conducted with individuals who had been in the position of president or athletic director. All interviews were tape recorded. These interviews were transcribed for use in the study. A questionnaire was used to secure the opinions of professors, students, and former students. PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to describe the California Opportunity Program and to determine if the program was meeting its legislative mandate to assist students in resolving problems impeding success in regular classes.
PROCEDURES: Six school districts were selected from the one hundred twenty-four California school districts operating Opportunity Programs at the secondary level during the 1972-73 school year. Purpose. The purpose of this study was to analyze the influence of selected factors on high school seniors' attitudes toward two-year occupational programs as career educational plans. More specifically, the study analyzed the relationship between the students' educational plans and the following selected factors: (1) parents' perceived influence, (2) fathers' occupations, (3) fathers' education, (4) peers' perceived influence, and (5) the schools' perceived influence. The study was designed to: (1) determine the expenditures for an individual basic mathematics program in the junior high schools using individual Learning Units, (2) determine the expenditures for a traditional, textbook-oriented approach to basic mathematics instruction, and (3) compare the achievement gains of the two programs. Null hypotheses related to cost-effectiveness stated that the operational cost per unit gain, and the sum of the developmental and operational cost per unit gain of the ILU program would be greater than the cost per unit gain of the traditional approach. Often it is the case unified school districts do not have optimum internal communications. "'Today school personnel, including administrator, often 'confound' their own language by failing to communicate adequately and effectively or by communicating unintentionally in a manner that is detrimental to them and the schools with which they are associated."

This paper presents guidelines for development of an outdoor education program for schools in Washington, Oregon, and Idaho. This developmental study is an analysis of the information collected from nine districts in Oregon, Washington, and the Regional Office, U.S. Forest Service, Portland, Oregon. It is limited to evaluations of existing programs, interviews with resource personnel and library research. Recommendations of this study are those indicated by the districts consulted and the Washington and Oregon Departments of Public Instruction.

This study was made in order to gain data pertinent to assess the need for change from junior high school to middle school. The study did indicate that a majority of middle school administrators believe that educational philosophy was more influential than was economic expediency in the creation of the middle school. It was evident that the majority of middle school administrators believe that the students served by the middle school are more tranquil, better disciplined, and taught better, because of the middle school structure.
Due to responses received, it is recommended that further study of achievement levels be made.

The specific purposes of this study were (1) to report the nature and scope of written, in-service education policies of California school districts, (2) to report the nature and scope of employee training policies of the State of California and of the United States government, (3) to summarize in-service education policy changes recommended in the literature, and (4) to develop a proposed policy for in-service education of teachers in larger unified school districts in California.

It was the purpose of this study to analyze the status and role of student activities to propose the scope and duties of the position, and to establish criteria for qualifications, selection, and appointment of these co-administrators in California public high schools. Initially, a survey was made of all California public high schools to determine if there was a sufficient number of these co-administrators assigned on at least a half-time basis to warrant a more detailed study.
