Diagnosing Weakness In Basic Principles Of Electricity In Motor Apprentice Education In Ireland, Peter Kenny
Diagnosing Weakness In Basic Principles Of Electricity In Motor Apprentice Education In Ireland, Peter Kenny
Conference Papers
Many Motor trade apprentice students enter the later years of their studies ill prepared for the level of material encountered. This is due to several factors including the level and knowledge of basic electricity and electrical/electronic principles.
A lot of basic material in these areas has been covered during earlier years of their training but by the time they reach the final year of their apprenticeship (Phase 6) it is not safe to assume that they have a full grasp of the basics required.
We have developed a diagnostic test to measure the level of preparedness of these students. This …

Estimation Of The Cost Of A Newark Promise, George A. Erickcek, Michelle Miller-Adams
Estimation Of The Cost Of A Newark Promise, George A. Erickcek, Michelle Miller-Adams
Reports
This report offers an estimate of the cost of a place-based scholarship program, with a similar program structure as the Kalamazoo Promise, for the City of Newark, New Jersey. It is assumed that the projected Newark Promise scholarship program would begin in the fall of 2013, and the full cost of the scholarship would not occur until 2016 when four years of students are enrolled with Promise scholarships. Once "fully loaded," annual cost estimates for a Newark Promise range from approximately $8 million to $11.5 million per year, although costs would be substantially lower in the initial years of the …

With only 55.5% of U.S. college students graduating with a bachelor’s degree within 6 years there is an obvious need for interventions that will help students adjust to college culture and teach learning habits that foster students’ abilities to persist to graduation. This presentation will illuminate the process of weaving together study skills, a common reading book and life on a college campus to design a cohesive first year seminar that facilitates student success.

Higher Ed "International Exchange Rate" Leaves Intellectual Capital Behind, Jayne M. Comstock
Higher Ed "International Exchange Rate" Leaves Intellectual Capital Behind, Jayne M. Comstock
Scholarship and Professional Work - Communication
The higher education “international exchange rate” is unfavorable and improving at an alarmingly slow rate, given our need for graduates prepared for success in our contemporary global economy. There are basically two problems: not enough U.S. students are studying abroad and the opportunity to study abroad is disproportionately available to traditional students enrolled at private institutions.

Family Environment And School Environment As Predictors For Physical Aggression In Low-Income Children, Xiaoyu Li
College of Education and Human Sciences: Dissertations, Theses, and Student Research
The purpose of the current study was to examine the unique and collective contributions of child’s own characteristics, their family environment and school environment to the development of child physical aggression at Grade 5. This study was based on Bronfenbrenner’s Process-Person-Context-Time model (Bronfenbrenner & Morris, 2006). Children’s gender and their aggression at age 3 were included as person characteristics. Family environment (primary caregiver’s ethnicity, maternal education, home warmth, physical punishment, exposure to violence, family conflict, and parent-child dysfunctional interaction) and early child care experience measured by whether the child was in child care at both age 3 and age 4 …

Developing aircraft piloting skills takes years of training with experts to meet flight certification requirements. Not everyone can reach those standards, and the challenge is even greater for those with physical disabilities. There are opportunities to modify aircraft and train physically impaired students to be pilots; however, due to the high cost, few are able to do so. Able Flight seeks to change that by providing scholarship opportunities for people with disabilities to learn to fly and opening up new educational and career opportunities. Over 30 individuals with various disabilities have received scholarships since Able Flights inception, and all have …
