Institutionalized Erasure: The Influence Of Binarism On Nonbinary College Students, Max Cordes Galbraith

The Vermont Connection

The narratives and experiences of nonbinary people and nonbinary college students are still infrequent in scholarship and are viewed as abnormal, niche experiences. Normative ideals are further enforced by the severe lack of nonbinary scholars and researchers. In this paper, I name the challenges of normativity and use the existing literature to explore current obstacles to nonbinary students’ senses of liberation, safety, and belonging at their institutions of higher education. I use normativity, specifically transnormativity, and binarism frameworks to explore barriers to nonbinary students’ liberation and full engagement in higher education, and the uniqueness of nonbinary students’ experiences compared to …

The Student’s t-test showed that differences between groups were not statistically significant for knowledge acquisition and satisfaction, while they were statistically significant for self-confidence and perceived support with higher scores in the CPG group. Impacts Of Student-Led Sustainability Efforts At Fresno State, Marissa E. Acosta, Michael B. Mayfield, Feng Teter, Juana Lozano, Alcira Lucha, Ayanna Alewine, Beth Weinman, Devon Lee, Robert Cordova, Natalie Hedden

CSU Journal of Sustainability and Climate Change

As California State University, Fresno (Fresno State) continues to develop institutional capacity to improve sustainability within the contexts of the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education (AASHE), the university mission, and strategic objectives identified by the California State University (CSU), student activism has played a critical role in establishing the groundwork for current efforts. Despite progress towards an overarching goal of integrating sustainability into all parts of the institution, near constant turnover within the institution and student-led organizations often leaves uncertainties about institutionalization, with questions often arising about the respective roles of faculty, staff, and students. Archiving Feminist Truth In Trump’S Wake Of Lies, Julie Shayne

Humboldt Journal of Social Relations

This article is about an assignment I do in one of my Gender, Women, and Sexuality Studies social movement classes. I revised the assignment the first time teaching the class after Trump lost the 2020 election. For the assignment, students work in groups to research local feminist and gender justice organizations and deposit all of their original materials – recordings, photos, flyers, etc. – into a digital, open access archive I co-created several years ago with librarians and staff on my campus. In 2021 I had my students do the “post-Trump” edition where they researched local organizations about how their …

Implementation Of A Peer Mentorship Program Amidst A Pandemic At Virginia-Maryland College Of Veterinary Medicine, Casey Leslie

Graduate Review

The Peer Mentorship Program was developed during a pandemic to meet the ever-growing needs of the first-year students at Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine (VMCVM). While all transitions into graduate school are difficult, this is especially true during a time of such uncertainty, where every change is magnified by something out of students’ control. To combat the frustration and isolation experienced by this group, a completely virtual program was set into motion in September of 2020.

This program seeks to be the solution to a range of difficulties that too many professional students have encountered during the pandemic. By providing …
