With organizations and their executives frequently in the news for violating the trust of their customers and shareholders, business schools, whose students will become the executive decision makers in both local and global firms, have begun to require courses in business ethics.  While ethics is a subject area that can be taught, instilling ethical behavior and trustworthiness may be more complicated. In this chapter, I introduce and describe the core characteristics of the four approaches to teaching trust: 1) the bounded rationality approach, 2) the behavioral approach, 3) the social construction approach and 4) the relational approach. The author began researching trust in the late 1980s. The technology of his practice and research converged in an instrument which indicated the strongest factor being "teacher trust of learners," and which he sought to enact in practice as "my trust of learners" were quite consistent with each other. This instrument has been used in 16 doctoral dissertations with findings of the strongest factor being "teacher trust of learners," including a study indicating the technology of his scholarship and practice being congruent. The author's research in andragogy started in the late 1960s. More serious in-depth attempts were launched in 1997, just after Malcolm S. Knowles died - the author wanted to honor his legacy since he and his work in andragogy were influential in the author's life. The author's research yielded an instrument with the strongest factor being 'teacher trust of learners' - a belief that applies all the way through k-20 Education. This is found to be so in doctoral dissertations, overarching trust behaviors, and threaded through the literature surrounding trust. Effects of gender, gender role, and individualized trust on self disclosure was studied on 293 participants. An interaction between gender role and individualized trust revealed that the high self disclosure typical of androgynous individuals is restricted to those who are high trusting.
