The population served by health care systems in the United States is widely diversified, which requires nurses to be culturally competent in their care practices. However, studies have shown that nurses do not consistently deliver culturally competent care. This basic qualitative study was designed to explore nurses’ perceptions of cultural competence at the bedside to understand what is needed to improve cultural competency practices. Campinha-Bacote’s conceptual framework for cultural competency was used to guide this study that included face-to-face, videoconference interviews using semi structured and open-ended questions from 13 voluntary, acute care bedside nurses. Even though educators are being encouraged to use culturally informed teaching practices in early childhood classrooms with a focus on including culturally inclusive literature, due to homogenous classroom libraries and minimal training, early childhood educators are challenged to follow these practices. The purpose and research questions for this basic qualitative study explored early childhood educators’ perspectives of the challenges of these practices. Using current research and the conceptual framework of critical race theory in education, research and interview questions were developed. We advocate building an extensive adolescent literature library to offer our pre-service teachers access to diverse texts, more text choices, and more opportunities for self-selected reading. In addition, we suggest using a faculty and student book club to model reading, write about literature, and discuss adolescent literature across disciplines.

The objective of this mixed methods historical document analysis is to identify the characteristics of culturally inclusive art education pedagogy. Using the theoretical lenses of intersectionality, critical theory, and socially inclusive pedagogy, this study seeks to determine the reasons for the misapplication of diversity and inclusion in art education. Qualitative and quantitative methods are applied to the historical document analysis of National Art Education Association articles in two major journals: Art Education and Studies in Art Education. African American teachers are slowly leaving the classroom, causing an imbalance in the student/teacher ratio (NCES, 2019). According to the National Center for Education Statistics, African American teachers make up 3% in California and 7% nationally. This study sought to understand the reasons for the decline in the number of African American teachers in public school settings. However, there is very little research on the racial attitudes and assumptions that aspiring police recruits and other criminal justice professionals have about people of color who reside in inner cities and diverse communities. The need to address Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion at university campuses is critical. The campus climate impacts college students' overall collegial relationships and academic abilities. Since 1976, there has been an increase of 19.1% marginalized students enrolled in college. For these students, a sense of belonging is believed to aid in improved collegial relationships and better academic performance. According to the research, students who have positive perceptions of the campus climate tend to be more satisfied with their overall college experience and become more academically successful.
