Implementing A Bottom Of The Pyramid Eye Care Solution, Patrick Long, Eric Martin, Paden Troxell, Charles Kim

The International Undergraduate Journal For Service-Learning, Leadership, and Social Change

Eighty-nine percent of the world’s visually impaired live in low-income regions (IAPB/WHO), and uncorrected refractive errors are the main cause of moderate and severe visual impairment. Poor eye care in developing nations hinders development and advancement by creating barriers to education and labor inefficiencies. In some developing countries, few individuals can afford, or even have access to, corrective eye care. We propose the global eye care problem can be addressed using bottom of the pyramid thinking.

First Aid For Student Cost: Helping Nursing Faculty Move Away From Textbook Purchase Requirements, Lea A. Leininger

There is growing interest in the use of open educational resources to reduce student cost. Many repositories provide e-resources that can be modified and adopted by instructors, yet there are a number of barriers to adoption. In 2017 several nursing instructors at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro received mini-grants to redesign a course to reduce textbook purchase requirements. This paper describes liaison librarian support for the course redesigns.

The Signal Earns Gold Medalist Rating From Columbia Scholastic Press Association, Ouachita News Bureau

The Signal, Ouachita Baptist University’s student newspaper, and its accompanying website was awarded a Gold Medalist rating from the Columbia Scholastic Press Association in the category of College Hybrid News. The highest rating given by CSPA, the award was announced last week and included a critique of both the print and web editions during the 2017-18 academic year.

A total of 774 students, faculty and staff from Ouachita Baptist University served the community of Arkadelphia during Tiger Serve Day on Saturday, Sept. 22, all while rain came down periodically throughout the morning. A total of 89 Tiger Serve Day projects under the theme “Lending a Hand” were completed by 103 volunteer teams.
