Illinois Wesleyan aspires to be a campus that fully embraces diversity to further its educational mission and purpose. Strides have been made in recent years to more fully embrace lesbian, gay, bisexual, queer (LGBQ+) and others marginalized around sexual orientation, and transgender and gender nonconforming people (TGNC) and those marginalized around gender identity. This process gained traction with a climate survey of LGBT identity and experience that was administered in Spring 2013 and developed through a student–staff collaboration. An Empirical Assessment Of The Performance And Competitive Effects Of Los Angeles County Charter Schools, Sam Trachtman

Undergraduate Economic Review

This paper evaluates the performance of charter elementary schools in Los Angeles County in three ways. First, I compare charter school performance to public school performance, controlling for a number of key characteristics. Second, I study the characteristics that appear to influence charter school success as compared to public school success. Third, I study the “competitive effect” of charter schools, examining how geographical proximity to charter schools affects the performance of traditional public schools. I find evidence that, ceteris paribus, traditional public schools score higher than charter schools, except in majority African American schools. Further, I find that the opening …

Rodgers speaks of how he came to enroll at IWU (from his home in St. Louis), racism as well as kindness he encountered in Bloomington, and jobs he held as the sole provider of his expenses at school during the Depression. He also describes research he conducted while a student and how he went to the University of Minnesota for his Master's work prior to being drafted in World War II and the Ph.D. in Psychology he received from New York University afterwards.
