A Systematic Approach To Education In The Andrews Independent School District, Pat K. Watkins

Graduate Theses

During the past decade, people in most areas of public and private life have turned to questioning the conditions under which they live and the quality of life itself. After years of rapid expansion, deficiencies, obsolete facilities, and practices, inadequacies in the educational product, and lack of long-term goals that are generally agreed upon by consumer and producer became apparent. Many people think that somebody is responsible for the shortcomings and should be held accountable. Determining responsibility for learning results is complicated by the many variables, controllable and uncontrollable, that affect the outcomes of the learner's experiences. Who is responsible …

An Analysis Of Peer Counseling As A Guidance Process In Educational Settings: A Review Of Literature And A Model For Implementation, Virginia E. Reed

Graduate Theses

This study was designed to investigate the efficacy of the peer helping model as a viable approach to extending guidance services to students not now being served effectively due to manpower constraints in the public schools. Evaluation and research data supporting peer counseling programs are limited. Since the use of peer helpers as an identified and organized element within a guidance program is a relatively new phenomenon, still considered experimental or "innovative", it is not surprising that information is tenuous and often ambiguous. However, the growth of peer counseling programs during the last decade, along with the apparent success of …

Personal, Social, And Vocational Adjustment Of The Educable Cerebral Palsied; A Review Of The Literature, Billy M. Brown

Graduate Theses

The educable cerebral palsied child possesses with his disability many problems. His place in the spectrum of the community is primarily determinant upon his personal adjustment, social adjustment, and vocational adjustment. The research of literature will clarify these functions in his growth and development process. As a vocational rehabilitation counselor, this author found so many handicapped individuals, particularly the cerebral palsied, come to the Vocational Rehabilitation Commission in quite a dilemma. They are unprepared vocationally, they lack personal and social skills and thus create within the counselor the question of feasibility for services based upon potential to enter into the …

A Hands-On Museum For Children, Stephanie Townsend

Graduate Theses

This paper concerns itself with the preparation for the development of a children's hands-on museum. Included is a definition of such a museum, a rationale for this type of museum, organizational considerations of a community museum, four exhibits intended to stimulate and guide children's cognitive processes, and a brief summation. The rationale for this children's museum is derived primarily from Piaget's theory of cognitive developmental psychology. Thus, the exhibits are exemplars of Piagetian curriculum. Career Education: A Promise Of Relevancy In Education, Jimmie Nell Parker Aug 1975

Career Education: A Promise Of Relevancy In Education, Jimmie Nell Parker

Graduate Theses

That students are role-oriented while many schools are still goal-oriented has been demonstrated in this project. Many educators (Goldhammer & Heilman, 1973; Glasser, 1970; Goodlad, 1975; Hansen, 1975; Mink, 1975; and Tyler, 1972) emphasize the importance of students finding their identity and a sense of belongingness. Hoyt (1974), Marland (1971) (1972), and Goldhammer et. al. (1973) see work as an important element in helping youth find a meaningful role for himself in his community. While still in its infancy, I career education is well on its way to carving out a purpose which is critical if American education is to …
