Teacher Candidate Learning Of Interdisciplinary Controversial Issues: Linking Social Studies And Science In The Elementary School Curriculum, Brandon M. Butler, Stephen R. Burgin, Mark Diacopoulos, William Mcconnell
Open Educational Resources - Teaching and Learning
Teaching controversial issues poses challenges for teacher candidates, stemming from apprehensions about potential backlash and gaps in content and pedagogical knowledge. The prevailing emphasis on tested subjects such as mathematics and reading/writing in elementary school education often sidelines social studies and science, limiting opportunities for candidates to engage with these disciplines and their associated instructional strategies, including addressing controversial topics. Integrating social studies and science with other subject areas emerges as a viable approach to ensure comprehensive education. Teacher education coursework serves as a vital platform for exposing educators to interdisciplinary curriculum design and implementation. Such exposure prompts teacher candidates …

Concepts In Animal Parasitology, Scott L. Gardner, Sue Ann Gardner
Zea E-Books Collection
This is a textbook covering concepts in animal parasitology. It is meant to be used by students, teachers, professors, researchers, and members of the public who are interested in learning about animal parasite biology, systematics, taxonomy, zoogeography, and ecology. The primary intended audience is upper-level undergraduate or graduate university students who have knowledge of basic biology and, particularly, basic animal biology. (863 pages, illustrated)
One of the most fascinating things that a person can experience in the complex realm of biology is the discovery of an animal living inside another animal. If this discovery takes place at an early enough …

I taught ‘Curriculum Teaching and Learning’ as one of the master-level courses that enables course participants to broaden their understanding of curriculum models, teaching, learning and assessment approaches. The assignment required participants to choose a topic in their subject area, review relevant literature, and identify challenges faced by teachers and students during teaching and learning that topic.
In addition, course participants were asked to list misconceptions students possess regarding the relevant topics and explore possible solutions and recommendations to address the identified challenges and misconceptions. Thus, the course participants developed learning resources (lesson plans) using the 5E model (Engage, Explore, …

Imsa’S Equity And Excellence Plan: 3 Year Outcome Report, Adrienne Coleman
Equity and Excellence Plan
The Academy recognizes and acknowledges the historical underrepresentation and marginalization of culturally, linguistically, and economically diverse groups, both universally, and particularly, in STEM education and professions. These disparities also exist in the representation of the Academy’s workforce. We are committed to advancing equity in STEM education and representation and creating a diverse, inclusive community of global citizens who can realize their full potential, and execute our mission to advance the human condition, through a model of Equity and Excellence.

Fighting Fire with STEM
Students will explore information interpretation and analysis, as well as a constant progression of information evolving as the event takes place. Students will be exposed to different decision- making processes according to given information (“sizing-up” concept). Additionally, students will utilize strategically thinking methods to place hydrants on a city map. Then, students will find the time needed for the fire truck to travel to the emergency location by using given speed and distance values. Lastly, students will have the opportunity to create a rescue plan based on information provided throughout the activities.

Fighting Fire with STEM
Students will analyze different types of fabrics commonly used in the production of everyday items. Then students will analyze the physical properties of the fabrics and will predict the fabric’s behavior during and after combustion. They will also compare their prediction to the actual process after watching a video. Lastly, they will prepare a presentation to explain the reason why certain fabrics burn in a certain way due to their structure.
