A Normative Study Of Some Developmental Aspects Of The Human Figure Drawings Of Children, Bessie M. Whitehead Oct 1961

A Normative Study Of Some Developmental Aspects Of The Human Figure Drawings Of Children, Bessie M. Whitehead

Electronic Theses & Dissertations

For many years there has been much interest in the use of human figure drawings as a projective technique for diagnostic use with the mentally ill. Psychiatric implications are attributed to practically every possible characteristic exhibited in the human figure, but until recently, little has been done toward establishing standards or norms describing objectively how various groups in the population actually perform when asked to draw a person. A clinician had no ruler by which to measure the performance of his client. He had no standard by which he could decide that the behavior exhibited was usual or abnormal for …

The Supervision Of The Guidance Program In A Small High School, John H. Clark Jan 1954

The Supervision Of The Guidance Program In A Small High School, John H. Clark

All Graduate Projects

The small high school has some problems to overcome in order to do an effective job in the guidance of its young people. It is difficult for the staff to find time for guidance activities in the busy schedule of today's curriculum. Released time is very necessary if effective counseling is to be done.

Another problan to be faced is the lack of trained personnel to head the guidance program. The high school principal must find a capable person or else head the program himself.

A third problem faced by the small high school is that of maintaining adequate records …

A Simplified Revision Of The Keston Music Preference Test, Barbara Jean Snodgrass Sep 1953

A Simplified Revision Of The Keston Music Preference Test, Barbara Jean Snodgrass

Psychology ETDs

The purpose of this study was to revise and simplify a new and involved test of musical preference. The Keston Music Preference Test in its original form consisted of sixteen phonograph record discs, or thirty-two sides in all. It took approximately three hours to administer, and the grading procedure was extremely complex and time consuming. However, in spite of these difficulties, the test has demonstrated its usefulness in measuring musical discrimination, or musical sophistication among high school students and college students. It seemed highly desirable, therefore, to reduce the length of the test and to simplify the grading system of …

A Parallel Group Experiment In Mental Hygiene With School Children, Ernest Herman Jackson Jr. Jan 1952

A Parallel Group Experiment In Mental Hygiene With School Children, Ernest Herman Jackson Jr.

University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations

Mr. Bullis seemed to have a direct answer to the problem that was concerning the experimenter. However, after using his book for several years and in different grade levels: sixth, seventh and eighth, it became apparent that no such single remedy would change the behavior or personality of children in a basic sense. The lessons seemed to work best for the experiment with eighth grade pupils, but still he was not confident in this own mind that they were as effective as they might be; that is, to help boys and girls get along better with one another, to understand …

An Investigation Concerning The Incidence Of Compulsitivity Among College Students, Reid I. Martin

Psychology ETDs

It is also a purpose of this study to contribute experimental evidence to the frequently reported observation that compulsion neurosis occurs more frequently in men than women.

*The terms "compulsion neurosis" and "hysteria" are used loosely in this thesis, not to mean neurosis per se, but neurotic trends in …

The Relationship Between The Intelligence & Emotional Stability Of Seventh & Eighth Grade Pupils, Thomas Boone Jan 1950

The Relationship Between The Intelligence & Emotional Stability Of Seventh & Eighth Grade Pupils, Thomas Boone

Masters Theses & Specialist Projects

A question nearly as old as the intelligence test itself led the author to make the investigation upon which this thesis is based. For years people in education and related fields have speculated as to whether the most intelligent children were the most stable emotionally or whether these brighter children tended more readily than the dull or average child to exhibit undesirable personality variations.

Practically everyone has, at some time in his life, used one or two isolated circumstances to prove the point that the more intelligent children were emotionally unstable or that the duller children were more unstable , …

Analysis Of Stresses In A Three Span Continuous Concrete Beam Bridge, G K. Leptien Jan 1949

Analysis Of Stresses In A Three Span Continuous Concrete Beam Bridge, G K. Leptien

University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations

While still attempting to decide on a topic for a thesis study, the author was asked, "How far from the up- ports of a continuous-bean reinforced-concrete bridge should the reinforcing for negative moment extend into the spany." It was a simple question, and the reason for it being asked was that a particular structure, the one shown in the frontispiece, had developed transverse cracks in the surface of the deck structure a distance of three and a half feet from the center of both interior supports. (See the plan view in figure 6, Appendix.) The cracks were by no means …

A Technique For Inter-Translating Psychological Theories, Joseph C. Trainor

All Faculty Scholarship for the College of Education and Professional Studies

The present situ.at ion in psychology is a strange mixture of para.dox, dilemma and confusion, with many self-confident schools of thought in the field, each somewhat antagonistic to the others. The history of other sciences reveals that these are the growing pains out of which there will emerge the matured science. Meanwhile, the squabbles and the confusion are here and we must do something about them.
