Benefits Of Using An Upright Laboring Position As Compared To Supine In The Second Stage Of Labor And The Impact On The Use Of Assisted Devices, Chelsey Cook

Master of Science in Nursing Family Nurse Practitioner

Abstract: This paper explores the conclusion that women and their infants are at an increased risk for harm when assisted devices are used during the second stage of labor. Traditional practices involving a supine position during pushing have been associated with an elevated likelihood of assisted delivery, necessitating interventions such as forceps, vacuum extraction, or episiotomy. However, emerging evidence suggests that adopting an upright position during labor may help decrease the need for these interventions and positively impact maternal and fetal outcomes.

Although comprehensive research on this topic is limited, the available evidence supports the benefits of an upright position …

Nursing Faculty Publications

Preventing medication errors remains a priority in nursing education. The implementation of Barcode Medication Administration (BCMA) systems is one strategy that has been used to reduce medication errors. Practice using BCMA in simulated settings may enhance the transfer of these skills to the clinical practice setting. However, the purchase of BCMA educational products available for nursing students can be cost prohibitive for many nursing programs. To overcome the barrier of cost, an interdisciplinary and innovative collaborative approach was used to create a fully functional low-cost BCMA system.

Strategies For Preventing Surgical Site Infections, Dorathy Anderson

MSN Capstone Projects

Post-surgical site infection has continued to remain a significant public health concern. Amid the prominent hospital-acquired infection, surgical site infections contributed to a considerable rate of death, severe morbidity, increased cost of therapy, disability, prolonged hospital stay, higher insurance payment, complications in patient healing, an increase in healthcare cost as well as treatment expenses (Allaf & Navyashree, 2022). Although seemingly relatively low in occurrence, about 10% of the infections are related to healthcare-associated infections. (Allaf & Navyashree, 2022). Knee reconstructive procedures are most common among older patients, who have a higher risk of developing complications.

The current practice of scrubbing …
