From Socrates To Leonardo: Integrating Education In The European Union, Kara P. Wegener

This thesis examines French education policy in response to European Union (EU) initiatives since the 1970's. It demonstrates that policy-making at the EU and national level have both supported decentralization, i.e. supranational and national policies encourage more regional development and local decision-making. A new model, termed "Europeanization," accounts for the new regionalism and multi-level governance in the EU. The three hypotheses tested in this thesis claim that if French higher education is becoming europeanized, then the number of actors involved in policy-making will increase, funding for higher education will become more diversified, and participation rates of regional universities will grow. …

Even though there seems to be almost unanimous acceptance among countries that professional accountants must be educated, pass some professional examinations, and have some practical experience, the recipe for the quantity of each of the 3 ingredients varies from one country to another. To determine if international reciprocity is possible, the professional accountancy qualifications of 8 countries were surveyed: Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Japan, New Zealand, the UK and the US.

The purpose of this project was to develop an employment profile of Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) graduates in Statistics from selected universities in Taiwan, since 1990. To accomplish this purpose, a review of current literature regarding professional opportunities in the field of Statistics was conducted. Additionally, a survey instrument was developed and mailed to recent graduates awarded B.A. degrees in Statistics from universities in Taiwan. Survey results were reported and analyzed.

A model, volunteer, student service-learning program was developed for Holy Savior High School, Tienchung, Taiwan. The program was designed to be implemented during the everyday life of the school and curriculum, as well as for after school hours in the community. Five (5) specific student service-learning activities and projects were developed and designed for implementation: 1) Environmental Beautification. 2) Service to the Poor. 3) Service to Senior Citizens. 4) Service to Delinquent Youths. 5) Christmas Garden Fair. Development of the model program was influenced by a review of current literature and student service-learning information obtained from selected schools.

A model program in developing corporate personnel was designed for domestic fast food industry in Taiwan. The program emphasizes on successful business leaders' skills in the basic management function of decision making, planning, organizing, communicating, directing and controlling. Meanwhile, the successful fast food employee development have focused on training activity of customer service, personal appearance, company rules and regulations. The program concentrates on two specific areas: a management model and an employee training model. This literature review explored the system of education in South Africa. The exploration provided the background information about the unequal and segregated system of education which led to student uprisings in 1976. The curriculum became an area of contestation, and was thus attacked by leading educators, parents, teachers, and students. The people of South Africa called for a single, national, unitary system of education for all South African students. A multicultural education was proposed to unify a deeply divided nation and to support the new nation being born.
