National Michigan Test Score Improvement Averages For The International Students Of English At The School For International Training Of Ten Programs From January 1974 Through June 1976, Robert J. Thomas

This project contains student data, consisting of nationality, test scores, and age, from ten programs of International Students of English at the School for International Training. The data has been calculated to produce national test score averages which are helpful when comparing the various national and language group abilities of performance on the Michigan Test. In general this material supports the hypothesis that the closer a student's native language is to English linguistically the greater his score improvement will be on the Michigan Test.

This is a course outline for a 16+hour teacher-training workshop. It is designed for about 16 participants. The purpose of the workshop is to engage teachers and prospective teachers in the processes of self evaluation, goal formation and the development/application of more effective ways to teach. This is done through a series of introspective/extra-spective exercises based on four central questions:
What kind of teacher are you now? What is teaching/learning? How do you want to be as a teacher? How can you reach your objectives?

This report is a description of the creation and workings of an Open Corridor ESL Workshop designed as a supplement to an intensive ESL program. The workshop's form is based on the beliefs that learners learn in different ways, have different needs and interests which should be reflected in the content of activities, and can take the responsibility for their learning. An assessment of the strengths and weaknesses of this workshop and recommendations for improvement and use in different situations are presented in the final section.
