Using And Teaching Language In An Emerging World Culture, Anna Cecelia Dahland

MA TESOL Collection

Language does not exist in a vacuum. It interacts with culture and thought both as an actor and a reaction; world view both influences language and is influenced by it. Language has a unique and powerful role to play as the world's cultures increase their contact and their need to communicate with each other. The power and limitations of language shape its role in an emerging world culture. Meanwhile, as modern thought be comes more holistic and integrative, language teaching emphasizes more cultural and cognitive aspects of communication, rather than the purely linguistic aspects.
