Role Of Goal Assessment In Evaluating The Counseling Relationship, Dennis R. Whitney
Role Of Goal Assessment In Evaluating The Counseling Relationship, Dennis R. Whitney
All Master's Theses
The primary function of diagnosis in counseling is to enable the counselor to make predictions about behavior from which he in turn constructs his plans for handling the case (Callis, 1965). The writer assumed that all counselors engage in the process of diagnosis whether they do it purposefully and systematically, or implicitly, perhaps with very little awareness. If all counselors engage in diagnosis, then the accuracy of the counselor's predictions, based upon his evaluation of the client's goals is an important determinant in the way he handles the case and presumably affects the outcome of the counseling process. It seems, …

A Study Of Childhood Experiences Of Physicists, Lds Seminary Teachers And Outstanding Competitive Athletes, A. Garr Cranney Jr.
Theses and Dissertations
Theories of vocational choice are of current and vital interest to the counseling profession. Roe's theoretical work based on the Freudian assumption that occupational choice is related to family atmostphere has particularly stimulated recent research in this area. This study similarly follows her theory and employs Dr. Nachmann's techniques who tested comparable hypotheses with different groups in 1957.
The problem of this study was to determine if there were certain differences in the childhood experience of physicists, L.D.S. seminary teachers, and outstanding competitive athletes. Fifteen B.Y.U. students were interviewed in each group, the interviews following the items of a questionnaire. …

The purpose of this study is to show the need for and determine a basis for a guidance program. "Guidance is a means of helping individuals to understand and use wisely the educational, vocational, and personal potentialities and opportunities which they have or can develop."1
Why do we need a guidance program? Who can be benefited by it? First, our teachers need the services of a guidance program in order that they may know more about their pupils, -- their abilities and interests as well as their weaknesses. Information about the pupil's background, the different schools he has attended, …

Biographical Prediction Of Educational Success, Gerald Melvin Simmerman
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
The purpose of the study undertaken here is to determine the extent to which four biographical factors could be used to predict success in Air Force Career Counseling courses. The biographical factors are (1) age, (2) amount of education, (3) number of years in the Air Force and (4) number of years since the individual last attended school. The criteria used to measure the success are the test score results obtained in the Air Force Career Counseling Course taught at the University of Denver during 1952.
