In the first case, that of considering depreciation as a current operating expense, it is viewed the same as any expense. In other words, during any period of operation a certain. A certain portion of the total capacity of presently owned assets is also used up and becomes an expense.

It was the purpose of this study to investigate further the observed phenomenon of multiplicity of application of descriptive performance appraisal statements to many job families by testing the validity and factor patterns of these statements across a much broader segment of American business and industry. This was accomplished by asking a selected cross section of industrial, manufacturing and financial concerns; government agencies; and public utilities throughout the country to complete a questionnaire. All the data used in this study were obtained from the results of that study.

The purpose of this thesis is to examine the Buildings and Grounds Department of the University of New Mexico. This examination will consist of two major facets. The first will be a broad evaluation of the maintenance program as it presently exists and a comparison of this program with those of other universities around the country. The second major section will be an investigation of the feasibility of subcontracting some of the maintenance functions now performed by the Buildings and Grounds Department to see whether this would be advantageous to the University.

A particular small manufacturing company in New Mexico was selected for the study. The Company was incorporated in 1956 after a short history as a partnership. The primary objectives of this Company were assumed to be: (1) to operate profitably, (2) to provide a good outlet for the talents and skills of the incorporators, (3) to establish a reputation as a high-quality manufacturer, and (4) to allow self-determination on the part of the incorporators.
