The It-Business Equilibrium Model: Understanding The Dynamics Between Business Demand And It Supply, Lawrence Ness, Shankar Babu Chebrolu
The It-Business Equilibrium Model: Understanding The Dynamics Between Business Demand And It Supply, Lawrence Ness, Shankar Babu Chebrolu
International Journal of Applied Management and Technology
The factors that could be used to define, measure, and improve IT flexibility are not considered to be well-defined or understood. A theoretical framework for understanding and determining such factors is proposed in this article, which could be used by business and IT leaders to assess their IT flexibility. Organizations can use this framework, termed the IT-business equilibrium model, as a tool to improve their own IT flexibility as a means to improve their IT effectiveness and ultimately achieve sustained competitive advantage for their businesses.
Ethics Of Relationships Between Accounting Academics And External Sponsors, Steven Mintz, Li Dang
Ethics Of Relationships Between Accounting Academics And External Sponsors, Steven Mintz, Li Dang
Steven Mintz
A variety of relationships can develop between accounting academics, academic units, and external sponsors that raise issues of ethical propriety. External donors may seek to influence academic decisions by applying pressure on recipients to gain favored treatment. We believe these types of situations are on the rise because of increased commercialization of universities. In this study, we examine relationships between accounting academics and external sponsors that challenge academic independence because of conflicts of interest when donors seek to impose conditions on financial support. We solicit the opinions of academic accountants about how likely they are to go along with the …
The Power Of Stereotyping And Confirmation Bias To Overwhelm Accurate Assessment: The Case Of Economics, Gender, And Risk Aversion, Julie A. Nelson
The Power Of Stereotyping And Confirmation Bias To Overwhelm Accurate Assessment: The Case Of Economics, Gender, And Risk Aversion, Julie A. Nelson
Julie A. Nelson
Behavioral research has revealed how normal human cognitive processes can tend to lead us astray. But do these affect economic researchers, ourselves? This article explores the consequences of stereotyping and confirmation bias using a sample of published articles from the economics literature on gender and risk aversion. The results demonstrate that the supposedly “robust” claim that “women are more risk averse than men” is far less empirically supported than has been claimed. The questions of how these cognitive biases arise and why they have such power are discussed, and methodological practices that may help to attenuate these biases are outlined.

A Neural Network Decision-Making Model For Job-Shop Scheduling”, Davood Golmohammadi Phd
Davood Golmohammadi
Scheduling in a job-shop system is a challenging task. Simulation modelling is a well-known approach for evaluating the scheduling plans of a job-shop system; however, it is costly and time-consuming, and developing a model and interpreting the results requires expertise. As an alternative, we have developed a neural network (NN) model focused on detailed scheduling that provides a versatile job-shop scheduling analysis framework for management to easily evaluate different possible scheduling scenarios based on internal or external constraints. A new approach is also proposed to enhance the quality of training data for better performance. Previous NN models in scheduling focus …

Negative Impact Of Emotional Labor On A Corporate Image: The Case Of Amway Poland, Pawel Krzyworzeka
Pawel Krzyworzeka
This article analyzes the effect of the emotionality of Polish direct sales representatives on the corporate image of Amway Poland in mainstream media. The findings are based on the interpretative analysis of public discourse on multi-level marketing in Poland. The article concludes that business practitioners that are willing to apply some forms of emotion management in a different country should be especially sensitive to its prevailing forms of emotionality. Learning which behavior is and is not acceptable in a society could be accomplished by conducting analysis of its public discourse.

Purpose – The Guest Editors’ intent with this special issue is to tell tales of the field and beyond, but all with the serious end of rendering visible the largely invisible. This paper aims to introduce the articles forming the special issue, as well as reviewing extant work that foregrounds the hidden stories and uncertainties of doing qualitative research. Design/methodology/approach – The authors advance their arguments through a literature review approach, reflecting on the “state of the field” with regard to doing research and offering new directions on reflexivity as an ethical consideration for conducting qualitative research. Findings – Far …

Entrepreneurial Orientation (Eo) And Performance Of Government-Linked Companies (Glcs), Wei-Loon Koe
Journal of Entrepreneurship, Management and Innovation JEMI
Quite often, people have negative views on government-linked companies (GLCs) due to the unsatisfactory performance of some key players. In order to improve the performance of GLCs in the country, Malaysian government implemented GLC Transformation Program (GLCT) in 2004. As the program is approaching its ending phase, some efforts are needed to assess the performance of GLCs. This study aimed to examine the influence of EO dimensions on the performance of GLCs. The sample of this study consisted of 153 subsidiaries and branches of G20. Based on the multiple regression analysis performed, this study found that all the five dimensions …

Motivations-Attributes-Skills-Knowledge (Mask) Model As Framework For Leadership Assessment Balanced Scorecards: An Empirical Study, Chris D. Bellamy
Dr. Chris D. Bellamy
Over the course of history many leaders have made their mark on society. These leaders have led uprising, movements, and organizations that have left legacy’s in today’s society. Leaders such as Martin Luther King, Adolph Hitler, and Jack Welch have displayed behaviors and leadership competencies which motivated their followers. These leaders demonstrated that leadership success can be achieved by enabling key leaders around them in an attributive environment. In today’s business environment, executives are seeking ways to identify new leaders which are well rounded in terms of their motivations, attributes, skills, knowledge and abilities to manage people. A Three-Dimensional Model Of Identifying Barriers To Knowledge Management, Anna Ujwary-Gil
A Three-Dimensional Model Of Identifying Barriers To Knowledge Management, Anna Ujwary-Gil
Anna Ujwary-Gil
This article is a continuation of the author’s discussion concerning the identification and classification of barriers to knowledge management, which appeared in 2012 (see References). The author divides these barriers into three interrelated dimensions: a) the prevalence of these barriers (exceeding the classical triad of: individual, organizational, and inter-organizational levels), b) the stages of knowledge management processes, and c) the types of barriers. The three-dimensional model presented is based on the field of morphology utilized in the theory of combinations. This paper is conceptual in nature, and is aimed at identifying barriers to knowledge management, and new areas of research. …

Managing Sales Compensation: A Sales Force Configuration Approach, Pankaj M. Madhani
Managing Sales Compensation: A Sales Force Configuration Approach, Pankaj M. Madhani
Dr. Pankaj M. Madhani
A company and the configuration of its sales force have to evolve as the company goes through the stages of its life cycle. Sales force configuration involves decisions that reflect sales strategy, sales force structure and sales force size. Specifically, it focuses on how the sales personnel apportion their efforts among different products, customers, geography and selling activities (sales strategy); the differing roles that internal sales force and external selling partners should play (sales force structure) and the sales force capacity to effectively serve the customers (sales force size). Sales force configuration management is critical because it determines how quickly …

Emergency Service Leader Perceptions Of Legitimacy, John R. Fisher, R. Jeffery Maxfield
Emergency Service Leader Perceptions Of Legitimacy, John R. Fisher, R. Jeffery Maxfield
Dr. John R. Fisher
This study adds to the qualitative data showing how leaders in the emergency services perceive legitimacy and the bases of power. The study examines leader perception of the reasons their subordinates view their leadership as legitimate. Two definitions of legitimacy are presented: the traditional viewpoint of French and Raven (1959) associating legitimate power “with having status or formal job authority” and the other proposed by Maxfield (2012) in the LEAP leadership model basing legitimacy more on the characteristics leaders bring to their positions. Emergency service students interviewed leaders in their career fields, determining their view of legitimacy. They found that …
