Editor's note: Alum Dr. Lars Peter Hansen, '74, who studied mathematics, political science, and economics, at USU was named as this year's Nobel Laureate in Economics. Now a professor at the University of Chicago, Hansen shares the award with two other eminent economists, Eugene Fama, also of Chicago, and Robert Shiller, of Yale. On behalf of the New York City Economic Development Corporation, the Center for Real Estate Studies’ Capstone Seminar examined the various issues that growth-stage technology companies face when leasing office space in New York City. After compiling data from a variety of sources, including interviews with real estate and technology sector stakeholders and substantial legal research, the authors developed a practical guide for start-ups to use when negotiating a lease for office space. Professor Rosemary Fullerton received Honorable Mention for her submission to the Mark Chain/AICPA 2013 Teaching Innovation Award for her presentation titled “Lean Accounting in Support of Lean Manufacturing: Ronny the Robot Simulation,” at the recent AAA annual meeting. The prevailing wisdom in the film and video production industries is that audio information outweighs visual information when it comes to spectator responses, but there are few empirical studies to support this claim. In previous research, four critical characteristics of sound have been identified: (1) Music, (2) visual/sound contradictions (defined as sound that is inconsistent with audience expectations based on visual information), (3) multi-channel sound, and (4) sound quality. This paper has two major objectives. The first objective intends to answer the following question which is of significant interest to information system (IS) researchers and practitioners: How does user satisfaction (satisfaction) respond to changes in system use and system attributes? The second and more ambitious objective is to promote the application of economic theories in user behavior research.
