Linking Leader Member Exchange (Lmx) And Happiness At Work Through Symbolic Interaction Theory, Faisal Qamar, Syed Mir Muhammad Shah, Shuaib Ahmed, Yasir Mansoor Kundi

Drawing on symbolic interaction theory, present study tests LMX and employee happiness at work with mediation of self-esteem and moderation of organizational embeddedness. Authors collected data from FMCG companies from Pakistan that comprised 124 employees. Findings suggest significant relationship between LMX and happiness at work. Follower self-esteem significantly mediated LMX and happiness at work, and organizational embeddedness moderated between LMX and happiness at work. Findings are instrumental for organizational practitioners. Organizational leaders should consider quality LMX interactions with their employees in prevailing global crises. It will improve relationship with team members and boost their self-esteem resulting in happiness at work. …

Sustainable HRM and workplace well-being have gained increased attention from researchers recently. Given this, the present paper attempts to undertake a systematic literature review to identify ways and means by which sustainable HRM and well-being are linked for better individual and organizational outcomes. The primary focus of this paper is to study the relationship between sustainable HRM and well-being, i.e., whether sustainable HRM predicts well-being at work? Emotional Intelligence (EI) may be more important to the success of college students than cognitive intelligence and technical skills combined. Recent research has primarily focused on EI in the workplace. However, implications for improving EI skills of college undergraduate students before they enter the workforce appears to be lacking. This quantitative research examined the Emotional Intelligence levels of five different majors to identify differences based on area of study, gender, or other demographic factors. In the workplace, managers often offer monetary rewards or incentives as instantaneous motivators in hopes that it will alter employee behavior. Unfortunately, although these rewards have been proven to yield desired outcomes, their impacts are short lived as managers create an environment based on extrinsic motivation. When an employee works solely to receive a paycheck it is already challenging to keep them, as other companies can offer them comparable, if not better, salaries. Rapidly changing environments force organizations to adapt quickly to remain relevant. However, a given organization’s ability to adapt depends largely on its leaders’ ability to guide and direct their subordinates in the use of the organization’s resources. Research has identified self-directed professional development (SDPD) as a critical component of leaders’ ability to meet the challenges of adaptation, but notably absent from the literature are explorations of how leaders’ self-perception relates to the degree to which they engage in SDPD. Field experiments enable economists to test whether theory adequately captures behavior in natural settings, or whether evidence supports reevaluating the reasoned abstractions comprising the theory. Economics, and social science more generally, has increasingly valued the evidence provided by field studies. These studies typically require a relationship with an external partner site providing the environment for the study, but existent research offers little guidance for developing these relationships and designing procedures for effective collaboration. The purpose of this paper is to provide greater insight into what is necessary to conduct field experiments in economics, particularly behavioral economics in private market settings. …

Kevin Tanner addresses the importance of professional identity in librarianship. In the Summer 2015 semester, he completed an independent study on the construction of professional identity of librarians on Twitter through professional development and networking. During this session, he shares the results of that study and give suggestions on how you can begin to find your own professional identity while still retaining your individuality. While there are many stereotypes about librarians, they are not “one-size-fits-all” professionals, and a new modern image of the professional has begun to emerge in the digital age through a thoughtful reflection on identity.

In today’s business environment, executives are seeking ways to identify new leaders which are well rounded in terms of their motivations, attributes, skills, knowledge and abilities to manage people. Companies invest in skill development of existing managers and often in potential managers. The Motivations-Attributes-Skills-Knowledge (MASK) model establishes the framework for baselining leadership behaviors and competencies for assessment and measurement verses a subjective annual performance evaluation.
