Biblical Leadership Principles And Practices Used By University Leaders, William C. Hackett Jr
Biblical Leadership Principles And Practices Used By University Leaders, William C. Hackett Jr
Doctor of Education (Ed.D)
This study was conducted to ascertain the leadership principles and practices of those persons in leadership positions at a private, Christian university. The purpose, therefore, was to determine to what degree the leaders at the Christian university under study did practice biblical principles and practices in their leadership. The research design was an explanatory sequential mixed methods study. The same private, Christian university was used for both the quantitative and the qualitative study. The quantitative method employed the Leadership Practices Inventory which asked 30 questions using a Likert scale to determine to what degree 50 leaders at the university practiced …

A Phenomenological Study Of Native Village Pastors’ Perceptions Of The Alaska School Of Ministry, Cynthia L. Cohen
Doctor of Education (Ed.D)
The Alaska School of Ministry (AKSOM) was established to provide ministerial education venues in Alaska. This phenomenological study queried pastors who provide ministry in Alaska Native villages to examine their perceptions of AKSOM and perceived effects of the program on their ministries and villages. Fifteen participants, including students and AKSOM leaders from various ethnicities, were interviewed. Transcripts were analyzed to discover common themes. Five themes were noted, which included relationship (fellowship, local, approachable), flexibility, empowerment (support, confidence), practicality, and financial feasibility. All leaders and students perceived the program as a valuable and effective education tool in preparation for ministry in …

Combining Faithfulness With Learning: Avoiding The Path Of Secularization At Brigham Young University, J. Gordon Daines Iii
Combining Faithfulness With Learning: Avoiding The Path Of Secularization At Brigham Young University, J. Gordon Daines Iii
Theses and Dissertations
Most research universities in the United States began as religiously affiliated institutions. Beginning in the late 19th century and continuing over the course of the 20th century, the vast majority of these institutions engaged in a process of secularization through which faith moved from the center of academic life to the periphery. This paper elucidates a conceptual framework for understanding how and why Brigham Young University did not follow the path of secularization that so many research universities, originally religious in nature, pursued. It examines the steps that the university and its sponsoring institution (The Church of Jesus Christ of …
Evaluating Transformative Spirituality In An Organizational Leadership Program At A Christian University, Elizabeth D. Rios
Evaluating Transformative Spirituality In An Organizational Leadership Program At A Christian University, Elizabeth D. Rios
Theses and Dissertations
In the field of Christian higher education, some educators are more concerned with marketing their programs to nontraditional students, the fastest growing segment of new enrollments. Although many view that as a blessing, the issues of mission and specifically spirituality are of concern to educators and administrators who want to avoid the secularization already impacting many fine schools in the country. At satellite locations, some educators perceive that the lack of structured practices and intentional procedures and the marketing of convenience-based structural models have watered down the offerings of Christian higher education. This applied dissertation evaluated whether spiritual development and …

Early Thursday morning, March 10, 1977, John C. Wengatz '09 went home to be with the Lord. For those of us who knew John and Helen Wengatz through many years, this was both a sorrow and a joy. But who would not rejoice in the ninety-six years of humble, devoted, and fruitful ministry of this great man of God.

The number one consideration is found in the nature of Christian higher education. To be Christian, higher education must be whole-person growth. The process and the experience must include the intellectual, the physical, the social, and the spiritual. The total Taylor program is intended to provide opportunities in all of these aspects of the individual's growth.
In the spiritual aspect of growth there are two important facets. The one has to do with the individual devotional life of the growing person. The other has to do with corporate and group experience in worship and other phases of religion-related experiences. This …
