Bilingual Publication Workshop

This bilingual student magazine is the result of the hard work, creativity and energy of the 62 students in this year's Publication Workshop, a course offered by the Department of Translation. This is a very hands-on, practical course in which students learn by doing. Each student must take responsibility, both as an individual and as part of a team, to ensure that the quality of the publication is high and that the entire production process goes smoothly and according to schedule, just like in a real-life professional setting. L’Éthique De La Différence En Traduction : Le Cas De Deux Romans Africains Francophones Et De Leur Restitution En Anglais, Augustine H. Asaah

Translation advances the cause of the international community as it plays a vital role in global development and understanding. The literary text needs to be translated before readers from diverse linguistic communities can apprehend and enjoy it. To a large extent, the success of the translation enterprise is a function of the accuracy of the target-text. With illustrations drawn from two francophone african masterpieces, Ahmadou Kourouma’s Les soleils des indépendances and Mariama Bâ’s Une si longue lettre, this article seeks to determine the extent to which the target-texts in English respect the spirit and the letter articulated by the source-texts. …

Türk Edebiyatı Kanonu Ve Ulusal Kimliğin Sınırları (The Canon Of Turkish Literature And The Limits Of National Identity), Pelin Basci

World Languages and Literatures Faculty Publications and Presentations

The article is written in Turkish.

Written for the special issue of the journal Pasaj Edebiyat on the canon of Turkish literature, the article explores the relationship between the formation of the literary canon and the forging of the national identity. It argues that the modern canon of Turkish literature, much like other national literatures in the Balkans and the Middle East, has been politically constructed after the break with the Ottoman past. Turkish literature has been fashioned through a "literary exchange," much like the 1924 “population exchange” between Greece and Turkey, insulating and sanitizing it from other literary traditions …

Theses & Dissertations
