Old Testament Principles Relevant To Consensual Homoerotic Activity - Part 2, Roy E. Gane
Old Testament Principles Relevant To Consensual Homoerotic Activity - Part 2, Roy E. Gane
Faculty Publications
This, the second part of a three-part study, seeks to identify principles in the Old Testament relevant to the relationship between God’s community of faith and individuals who engage in sexual activity outside (heterosexual) marriage. My primary focus is on mutually consensual homoerotic activity as practiced within the LGBTQ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer) community.

B-1 Psalm 1: "From Obedience To Eternity", Maksym S. Gordiienko
Celebration of Research and Creative Scholarship
In my paper I analyze Psalm I. There are direct allusions in this psalm to the Pentateuch and to the book of Revelation. Thus it connects the past of Israel with eternity and glorious future of God’s people.
In poetic form the Psalmist reveals secrets of salvation. In order to understand his wisdom I make two steps. Firstly, I analyze the literary context and the genre of the psalm. I also make exegetical analysis studying the structure of the psalm, its keywords and grammatical data. Secondly, I give suggested theological interpretation.
The paper finishes with practical application as any theological …

Celebration of Research and Creative Scholarship
The Cavan Burren is a plantation forest within the Marble Arch Caves UNESCO Global Geopark overlay along the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland border. The exposure of Cavan Burren’s "relict landscape" resulted from a 2012 partial clear fell. Our multidisciplinary team of researchers in architecture, technology, ecology, fine arts, and archaeology investigated domestic architecture reflected in three stone configurations: circular/semicircular sites, rectangular sites, and tomb structures. We also investigated human action on pedestal boulders (PBs), which had been modified by sculpting, splitting, and cutting away. Our first goal was to show human action on structures by using three-dimensional (3D) …

Although every culture needs to be transformed by the Spirit and the Word of God (Pierson, 2009:257), it is still essential that the communication of the gospel, in whatever setting, seeks to make the gospel concepts and ideas relevant to people within their own cultures (Hiebert, 1985:55). However, the need to be culturally appropriate always should be closely coupled with an in-depth analysis of the Scriptures. Because “people can only understand that which is part of their cultural frame of reference” (Rogers, 2004:65), the presentation of the gospel must be both biblically sound and culturally relevant in order to be …

The Chief And The Church: Reflections From A Business Educator, Annetta M. Gibson
The Chief And The Church: Reflections From A Business Educator, Annetta M. Gibson
Faculty Publications
In this article I distinguish between “Church” with “C” and “church” with small “c.” Recently, a committee composed of several Seventh-day Adventist church employees—some from the General Conference and some from academia—was reviewing various agenda items when the chair noted that the General Conference had hired an individual to serve as “CIO”—Chief Information Officer. Questions were immediately raised: Why is the Church using business titles such as “Chief Financial Officer”? Why the emphasis on “Chief”? Aren’t we becoming more like a business when we use business titles and terms?

The Art Of French Melodie: A Manual For Recital Preparation, Kristen Abraham
The Art Of French Melodie: A Manual For Recital Preparation, Kristen Abraham
Honors Theses
This is a documentation of my journey through the research, development and execution of a voice recital, with a focus on the creation of guidelines for how one may achieve success in a future recital. Moving through three phases: Thinking, Doing, and Reflecting, I highlight the important processes required to transition seamlessly through the phases. During the entirety of this project, I kept a journal of each step, documenting everything to maintain the integrity of the process, and organizing the information into sections to make the findings easier to understand, learn, and replicate. My end goal is to produce a …

The Prophet Elijah As An Agent Of Change For Community Development, Lollo Zo Nantenaina, Joel Raveloharimisy, Karen Mcwilliams
Journal of Applied Christian Leadership
"Modern christian leaders can become involved as agents of change in their communities, specifically in ways demonstrated by principles of community development seen in the Old testament prophet Elisha’s miracles. According to christ’s teachings (Luke 12:32-34), the mission of christians is not just going to church every weekend and participating in internal church programs; it involves taking care of the needs of the community outside the church as well. 2 Kings 1-8 details the Prophet Elisha’s actions as he dealt with different issues that occurred in his community—some involving only individuals and others affecting the whole community."

Servant, Leader, Or Both?: A Fresh Look At Mark 10:35-45, Bill Thompson
Servant, Leader, Or Both?: A Fresh Look At Mark 10:35-45, Bill Thompson
Journal of Applied Christian Leadership
How can Christian leaders find a balance between serving and leading? Part of the confusion lies in Jesus’ striking paradox itself. Following an exegetical study of Mark 10:35-45, i use John Stott’s categories of the choices between selfish ambition and sacrifice and between power and service to explore two key areas of application for pastoral leaders. if competent Christian leaders constantly seek to put Christ’s mission ahead of their own glory and to put the good of the group before their own desires, then their followers will be more likely to accept their influence.
Language As Leadership, Shirley Freed
Language As Leadership, Shirley Freed
Journal of Applied Christian Leadership
"Human beings have a fundamental connection to “home.” Christian leaders all have the underlying goal of leading the way home. We speak of heaven as home; we use phrases like, “home is where the heart is,” and “home Sweet home.” When circumstances are difficult, when we are worn and discouraged, we lean on life’s tired dreams and murmur, “i just want to go home.” home means many things to each of us, but i think that language is one of the vehicles that takes us home. For example, i always jump when i hear a Canadian accent, and i say …

Six Leadership Lessons From Photography, Brenda L. Boyd
Journal of Applied Christian Leadership
"I learned that the photographers who captured unforgettable images all had some things in common: they seemed to know themselves and people; they had vision, passion, and timing; they had an innate ability to communicate effectively; they took risks; and they learned from their mistakes. I also came to realize that as a result of their unique presence—and often their sacrifice—they made a significant and lasting contribution to our world."

What Is A "Community" Church Plant?, Hyveth Williams
Journal of Applied Christian Leadership
"A community plant is one that focuses on the health of the community. this means that you focus on the health of all of the churches in the community, regardless of the denomination, and the health of the people who live in the community, because a healthy community breeds healthy children. And what we are planting, what we want it to be is a healthy church."

Working from the assumption that we still experience similar challenges and therefore will benefit from applying these lessons today, Maxwell helps us to explore a combination of life and leadership lessons. As we learn, we recognize that the life lessons we learn …

A Correlational Study Of Emotional Intelligence And Servant-Leadership Among Church Leaders

Findings did not indicate any statistically significant relationship between a pastor’s past or present leadership experience and servant leadership practices within the church."
Factors And Qualities Of Lay Leadership Influencing Church Growth : A Multiple Case Study
Factors And Qualities Of Lay Leadership Influencing Church Growth : A Multiple Case Study
Journal of Applied Christian Leadership
"Extant literature regarding church growth mentions lay leaders as important partners in the operation and administration of a church. While discussions of their participation acknowledge their importance, no studies on church growth focused on the way they specifically influence growth. this qualitative multiple case study took a holistic approach by examining three churches within the Wesleyan churches in the American Midwest."
