The title of this talk includes no conjunctions and bears no punctuation in order to heighten the conception of the simultaneity, the unitariness of three conceptions that we often perceive as disparate realms. As I put together these remarks, I have begun to think in terms of shaping a more complete paper with this same title – entering into a territory (perhaps presumptively!) not unlike Heidegger’s “Building Dwelling Thinking” of his earlier period -- which is not a dissimilar associative lead. Today though is not the time for a tightly argued philosophical statement regarding the premises of such a conflation.

The following comments were made at the plenary meeting concluding the 1994 accreditation visits conducted by the PRC National Board on Architectural Accreditation (NBAA), under the auspices of the Architectural Society of China (ASC), and the Ministry of Construction (MOC). Four architecture programs first accredited by the NBAA in 1991 had midterm revisits: Tsinghua in Beijing; Tongji in Shanghai; Tianjin University; and South East University in Nanjing. Four were visited for initial accreditation: Chongqing Jianzhu University; South China Polytechnical in Guangzhou; Harbin and Xi’an Universities.

This project is an exploration on building environmental performance. On it we will use different advanced simulation tools like DesignBuilder and Climate Consultant to analyze a recommended building. We are focusing on the Mamakating Visitor Center in Sullivan County, New York as our case study. Our first studies included analyzing the site conditions and elements such as wind, sun, climate, and weather. We studied the environment surrounding the building and its climate using the two software mentioned above. We found that during the winter, we should block the wind and get more sun in. Thanks to advances in Additive Manufacturing (AM) technology and continued research by academics and entrepreneurs alike, the ability to “3d print” permanent concrete structures such as homes or offices is now a reality. Generally, AM is the process that allows for a 3d model of an object to be converted into hardware instructions to generate that object layer by layer using a malleable medium such as a plastic. The number of buildings seeking LEED certification has been growing steadily over the past few years. In this study, three academic buildings which were designed and built to LEED certification standards were targeted in Bowling Green, Kentucky. Their electricity consumption and cost effectiveness were examined and compared with predesigned LEED efficiency models of those three buildings. This research directly examined cost effectiveness of LEED buildings in terms of electricity usage. The group was responsible for developing a design which addressed the needs of the congregation as well as the needs of the toddler day care center. Studies of buildings belonging to a subset of Modernist architecture, Brutalism, have included discussions pertaining to social and architectural history, critical reception, tectonic form and geometry inspirations, material property selections, period technology limitations, and migration of public perceptions. Evaluations of Brutalist buildings’ energy related performances have been restricted to anecdotal observations with particular focus on the building type’s poor thermal performance, a result of the preferred construction method, i.e. monolithic reinforced concrete used as structure, interior finish and exterior finish. The study sought to identify how BIM was being currently addressed in 27 countries across the globe. The study sought to identify the presence of three key ingredients in these countries:

3. Noteworthy publications
