Proposed Charlotte To Atlanta High-Speed Passenger Rail Line: An Economic, Infrastructural, And Developmental Analysis In The Upstate Of South Carolina, Ian C. Macurda, Kimberly Whitehead

SC Upstate Research Symposium

This research paper is an in-depth analysis of the high-speed passenger rail line proposed between Charlotte, NC and Atlanta, GA and its impact on the economy, infrastructure, and future development of the Upstate of South Carolina. Currently, passenger rail service between Charlotte and Atlanta is offered on Amtrak at late hours throughout the night on its long-distance passenger rail line The Crescent from New York City, NY to New Orleans, LA. The train is often delayed and is operating at a deficit for Amtrak, like most of their long-distance routes. Traffic on Interstate 85 through the Upstate is another issue …

City Center, Underground Infrastructure, The Application Of Space Syntax, Arsim Mureli Oct 2018

City Center, Underground Infrastructure, The Application Of Space Syntax, Arsim Mureli

UBT International Conference

City centers are in the process of urban change, a process that is encouraged by complex structures and systems but this process also needs to be addressed, discussed to be affected and redirected. The application of space syntax analysis in urban research and planning. Sustainable development of a solution that can be characterized by a process in which quality of life is developed in such a way, that social and economic life is not a threat to the survival of environmental elements and ensures their continuity improvement. An adequate infrastructure solution at the center of the city, would provide an …

The Phenomena Of Urban Sprawl – Study Case Of City Of Prishtina, Ilirjana Mejzini

UBT International Conference

Urban sprawl is a phenomena that affected the entire world, in particular the capital cities. There are different cases and forms of the city extensions, which influence the community in many ways, like: social behaviour, economic prosperity, irrational land use, infrastructure disorder, energy inefficiency as well as polluted environment. This paper explores typical examples of urban sprawl evident in European cities and the core reasons of its appearance. The analyses will focus on the rapid urban extension of Prishtina; it’s over population and all consequences affecting daily life. The aim of the p ap er is to highlight the most …

Compression Testing And Failure Modes Of Steel-Concrete Composite (Sc) Structures For Nuclear Containment, Patrick Michael Wanamaker, Amit H. Varma Oct 2013

Compression Testing And Failure Modes Of Steel-Concrete Composite (Sc) Structures For Nuclear Containment, Patrick Michael Wanamaker, Amit H. Varma

The Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship (SURF) Symposium

Although being able to provide much cleaner power than burning coal and other fossil fuels, nuclear power plants are still a tough sell to the general public due to their history of being spontaneously dangerous. The containment structures surrounding these nuclear plants, however, can play a huge role in reducing the risks associated with them. Relatively new designs for these containment assemblies, known as SC (steel-concrete composite) structures, aim to increase the strength and durability of the containment facilities while keeping costs down. By varying the spacing between shear studs, the ratio of concrete to steel, and the ratio of …
