Landscape Architecture History: A Critical Review Of Its Curriculum And Teaching Methodology, Robert L. Marshall May 1980

Landscape Architecture History: A Critical Review Of Its Curriculum And Teaching Methodology, Robert L. Marshall

All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023

The purpose of this thesis is to develop criteria for establishing an effective course in teaching history of landscape architecture. Believing that professors, students and practicing landscape architects all have justifiable concerns and comments as to the way history of landscape architecture should be taught, questionnaires were sent to each of these groups across the country. Based on the responses to the questionnaires, coupled with information gleaned from a review of literature and the author's personal teaching experiences, the course criteria is established.

The research showed that it is important that the instructor be able to select historic periods and …

Determining Priorities And Potential Locations For Recreation Facilities In Cache County, Utah, Parry C. Thomas

All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023

This thesis establishes priorities for recreation expenditures in Cache County, Utah. This is achieved by comparing the supply and demand of facilities for the most popular activities in order to determine where there are deficiencies. Once these priorities have been determined, the problem of where the facilities to meet these priorities should be located is discussed. Recommendations are made as to what needs to be done to specifically locate these facilities.

Evaluation Of A Planning Methodology: Integrating Land Use Information In Water Quality Planning, Matthew B. Conover May 1980

Evaluation Of A Planning Methodology: Integrating Land Use Information In Water Quality Planning, Matthew B. Conover

All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023

The case study investigated was the 208 water quality planning conducted in the Ashley Valley, around Vernal, Utah. The region is expected to urbanize rapidly due to energy development on adjacent state and federal land. The water quality planning was being conducted in the absence of substantial prior land use planning.

A method is developed in the thesis for evaluating plans and methodologies. The method utilizes preformulated evaluation criteria to analyze structure and function of the methdology, political context, informational inputs, limiting factors, trigger factors, causeeffect relationships, and impacts of methodology on planning recommendations. The criteria collected from the literature …

It will identify typical problem areas that can be resolved by the Landscape Architect through the practical application of landscape architecture principles, the design use and influence of plant material, topography, and the environment. Design criteria will then be formulated for the site development of steam electric …

Antelope Island Study: Guidelines For Recreational Land Use Planning For Antelope Island, Utah, Using Computer Techniques, Robert D. Scott Jr. May 1974

Antelope Island Study: Guidelines For Recreational Land Use Planning For Antelope Island, Utah, Using Computer Techniques, Robert D. Scott Jr.

All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023

Throughout the history of traditional land use planning, justification for allocating a land use for a particular area has been accomplished generally in a debilitated fashion. For example, decisions have generally been arrived at by (1) political process--incorporating fringe areas into present land use patterns, or (2) short-term revenue producers are given a land use change from a tax base incentive, or (3) revelations implemented, or other subjective justifications. Except in very few instances, data used to base land use planning decisions was not accurately interpreted for adequate input or not even gathered.

Recently, new and innovative methods for land …

Guidelines for evaluating the land use controls for Bear Lake that will result from the Plan are derived from the shoreland ordinances of Wisconsin and Minnesota and the lakeshore experiences of New Hampshire and Vermont.

A Planning Analysis Of Utah Lake To Determine Its Recreational Potential, Robert D. Talbert May 1968

A Planning Analysis Of Utah Lake To Determine Its Recreational Potential, Robert D. Talbert

All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023

Utah Lake, located near Provo, Utah, is a lake of relatively low recreational development. There are certain inherent conditions that contribute to this situation. Four of them are, water level fluctuation, pollution, turbidity and the close proximity of other recreation sites of possible high desirability. This thesis explores these four problems and offers solutions and recommendations to solve or otherwise control their effect on recreation at Utah Lake.

The water level fluctuation will be under greater control after the Central Utah Project completes certain alterations in the lake and its watershed. Some fluctuation will continue but by proper design of …
