Promoting Education In Africa, Jack Colemere
Promoting Education In Africa, Jack Colemere
Student Research Symposium
Education in Africa has been a challenge for many years. But why? What can be done to transform it into something better? Through understanding Africa's history behind their education systems and by designing spaces to help promote better learning we can begin to reverse the impacts of the past and give good education and equal opportunities to all.
Parametric Design In Landscape Architecture: Exploring Visual Scripting In Grasshopper As A Tool For Landscape Design Innovation, Derek Jenson
Student Research Symposium
Parametric design is a tool that emphasizes the relationships between elements in the design and modeling processes. It combines the power of visual computer scripting with the design process. Unlike the fields of architecture and engineering, parametric design has been relatively nonexistent in landscape architecture until very recently. The objective of this project is to explore how parametric design can be used as a functional tool in a typical landscape design project - in this case, a trail design. The result of this study is a coded model that can serve as a tool to improve design efficiency in professional …
Pediatric Rehabilitation Outpatient Clinic: Design Focus On Invisible Disabilities With Sensory Sensitivity, Shelbi Boehme
Pediatric Rehabilitation Outpatient Clinic: Design Focus On Invisible Disabilities With Sensory Sensitivity, Shelbi Boehme
Student Research Symposium
The focus of this research presentation is to design a Pediatric Rehabilitation Outpatient Clinic in Logan, Utah providing diverse therapy spaces for children diagnosed with a range of disabilities. The American Disabilities Act (ADA) implemented some good generic standards for accessibility for persons with physical disabilities, but what about universal design for all disabilities? Designing spaces for a Pediatric Rehabilitation Outpatient Clinic involves researching many different types of disabilities that would be treated at the facility. Particularly invisible disabilities such as Autism, Multiple Sclerosis, Asperger Syndrome, and Traumatic Brain Injuries. These types of disabilities are often left out when designing …
