Communicating Through Space: An Exploration Of Interdisciplinary Relationships Between Architecture And Theatre Through Practical Application, Erin E. Hunter
Communicating Through Space: An Exploration Of Interdisciplinary Relationships Between Architecture And Theatre Through Practical Application, Erin E. Hunter
Architecture Undergraduate Honors Theses
Space as an expression of ideas is a relevant topic both in theatrical design and architectural design. Both create worlds, places in time, and experiences. The theatre is a platform where architectural ideas can be explored on a real scale. Audiences can make associations based on representation on the stage and connotations from popular culture. Theatre is more temporary than architecture by nature, and therefore theatre can reference architectural ideas in temporary settings to tell a story. By analyzing the physical characteristics of a space and the societal and cultural conditions that created it, a theatre set can isolate moments …
Small Houses, Big Ideas, Caroline Jean Winn
Small Houses, Big Ideas, Caroline Jean Winn

Architecture is the unavoidable art form.It permeates everyday life and wholly shapes lifestyle; it reflects culture and location as well as the economic power of a region. At its core, architecture is a testament to its surroundings, its design naturally requiring a series of decisions regarding space, form, and use – decisions born within a crucial and telling social context, decisions that quickly reveal the social climate of an era. Indisputably, architecture serves as a lens through which scholars can peer into a time past.
In the course of this thesis, I will examine how the designs of half …
Anyone Can Architect, Christine Wright
Anyone Can Architect, Christine Wright
Honors Projects
Because people often assume that one has to know architecture in order to study it, this interactive text makes it more approachable. Anyone Can Architect is an interactive sketch book introducing the basics of architecture to anyone from middle- and high-school students who are starting to explore different fields of study to those already studying and practicing architecture who might want to have fun with some of the basic principles. Not only does this text provide useful definitions of terms alongside some well-known examples, but it takes readers a step further by asking them to complete some specific tasks that …

CGU MFA Theses
My work explores the nature of interiority and exteriority, the relationship between the centered inner self and the peripheral, the physicality of occupying the inside of a space or viewing that space from the outside.

“Design is a not a preconceived idea or concept. Design is a collaboration to devise a plan intended for the space to be functional, show technical knowledge, implements form and code while being aesthetically pleasing to the eye. By executing these key areas, each project created will be practical and pleasing to anyone that interacts with the space.”

Diversity, a unique sense of culture that one brings to the essence of designing. Realizing the dreams of others takes an impartial mind, a retrospective view and ingenuity. Bringing the subconscious of one’s designs to life with grace, elegance and beauty.

“Design must be unique to those who occupy the space, while being completely functional for specific needs. Design ought to reflect individuality and should always be fun.”

I have been a designer all my life, examining objects and structures by the very small details that make them what they are. I love to create, reinvent, and modify any project that comes into my hands. I love how things work and are put together. I’ve always wanted to create designs that would make the public think in how they live their lives and how to treat the world around them. I want to be a designer that changes the world and helps those who can’t help themselves. I want to make the world a better place to live …
James Joyce's Model Dublin, Barry Sheehan
James Joyce's Model Dublin, Barry Sheehan
Academic Articles
“You are walking through it howsomever. I am, a stride at a time. A very short space of time through very short times of space.” (Joyce,1986, p.31).
James Joyce wrote about Dublin from a position of exile. He created a model Dublin, one in which he mixed people and places, events and activities, real and imagined and combined them into a city that suited his own ends.
This imagined city has been examined remotely in a multiplicity of ways, and by people in a way that the real city has not. One can ask whether it is Dublin at all? …

Examining The Measures Of Street Connectivity In The American City And Their Interdependencies As Applied In Practice, Dawn Haynie
Examining The Measures Of Street Connectivity In The American City And Their Interdependencies As Applied In Practice, Dawn Haynie
Art and Design Faculty Publications
This work expands much of the preceding research on the measures of existing street networks and provides a foundation for continued study of urban morphology in the American city. It provides a definition for categorizing street networks based on their morphological characteristics, and it uses the categories to demonstrate inconsistencies in the interdependencies of the measures of street connectivity. In summary, it argues that the simple measures of the elements in a street network, those of road segment length and block area, are not as powerful a descriptor of street connectivity as some of the more complex or composite measures. …
Designing A Residence In Sweden, Umeki Earl, Olivia Bufalini
Designing A Residence In Sweden, Umeki Earl, Olivia Bufalini
School of Human Sciences Research Showcase
The project was to design a home for the Nordstroms, a family who lived in Sweden. The challenge was to design a home for the family of four with a maximum square footage of 1100 square feet using the codes and space allocations required for another country. Meeting the needs of the client required much research. RESEARCH included studying the regional climate, the municipal building codes, and city regulations. Thorough research of building construction framing methods, insulation types and installation methods, site planning, materials and finishes were also essential for completing the project.

3d Scan Data For Selected Artifacts From Blackwater Draw National Historic Landmark (La3324), New Mexico, Usa, Robert Z. Selden Jr., George T. Crawford
CRHR: Archaeology
Between February 8-11, 2016, selected artifacts from the Blackwater Draw National Historic Landmark (LA3324) were scanned in advance of a grant proposal to digitally aggregate the Clovis-era artifacts from the Clovis type site. These data were collected using a NextEngineHD running ScanStudioHD Pro, and were post-processed in Geomagic Design X 2016.0.1. All data associated with this project have been made publicly available (open access) and are accessible in Zenodo under a Creative Commons Attribution license, where they can be downloaded for use in additional projects and learning activities. These data have the capacity to augment a variety of research designs …

CRHR: Archaeology
On June 8, 2015, the intact and reconstructed vessels from the George C. Davis site (41CE19) were scanned (3D) in advance of an analysis of 3D geometric morphometrics. These data were collected using a Creaform GoSCAN50 running VXElements via the scanner direct control function in Geomagic Design X. All data associated with this project are available in Zenodo under a Creative Commons Attribution license, where they can be downloaded for use in additional projects. These data have the capacity to augment numerous research designs in the digital humanities and ceramic studies, as well as a wide range of comparative research …

Bard College Bell Tower Architectural Lighting Project, David Douglas John Bull
Senior Projects Spring 2016
The Bard Bell Tower is located in front of the Fisher Studio Arts Building, between the Bertelsmann Campus Center and the Anna Jones Memorial Garden. Until recently, the tower structure, built by students in the spring and summer of 1965, existed in a slow state of decay due to natural aging and disuse. It is an important piece of Bard’s history that has been ignored in recent years, which is something I set out to change. My Senior Project in Studio Arts is focused on restoring the Bell Tower by stabilizing the structure and implementing a permanent light installation of …
