Adolescence is an important neurological developmental period that remains sensitive to conditions such as Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). Specifically, trauma can decrease orbitofrontal cortex (OFC) gray matter and abate emotional affect regulation (Thomaeset al., 2010). Previous studies have correlated positive (PA) and negative affect (NA) to prefrontal cortex volume (Davidson, 1998; Thomaeset al., 2010). The current study compared the effectiveness of equine-facilitated psychotherapy (EFP) and traditional group therapy (TGT) on measurements of PA and NA in adolescents with serious emotional disturbances (SED) and high PTSD comorbidity rates. Republican presidential candidates, most notably Donald Trump, have upped the ante on the rhetoric targeting Islam and Muslims, during an impasse when fears of terrorism and “homegrown radicalization” are at a climax. Calls for “Muslim immigration bans” and “making the desert glow” manifest the intense political Islamophobia gripping the 2016 presidential campaign. Throughout American history untold numbers of people have concealed their true racial identities and assumed a white racial identity in order to reap the economic, political, and social benefits associated with whiteness. This phenomenon is known as passing. While legal scholars have thoroughly investigated passing in its conventional form, the corollary process of reverse passing—the process in which whites conceal their true racial identity and present themselves as nonwhite—has not been closely investigated within legal scholarship.

It is often assumed that youthful transgressions are forgiven and that those who have participated in the juvenile justice system are given a clean slate. However, the reality for many noncitizens living in the United States who have been involved in the juvenile justice system is far less compassionate. Rather than benefitting from a potential second chance, the juvenile justice system’s treatment of noncitizen youths’ mistakes can lead directly to their deportation. Noncitizen children, like adult noncitizens, are always vulnerable to deportation. Modern biblical scholars often view the methods they employ as objective and neutral, tracing the history of modern biblical scholarship to the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. This volume examines some earlier, lesser known roots of modern biblical scholarship. In recent years, a growing social consensus has emerged around the aspiration of a “post-racial” America: one where race is no longer a fault line for social strife or, perhaps, a morally significant trait whatsoever. This ambition, however, lies in tension with the most basic constitutional principle governing our treatment of race in the public sphere: that of “strict scrutiny.” Post-racialism seeks to diminish the salience of race to near-negligibility.
