Community Coalition Seeks To Enhance School And Community Safety, Office Of Public Affairs

Governors State University and Prairie State College, working with the Jane Addams Juvenile Court Foundation, the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office, and a coalition of other groups, will convene two free school and community safety events at Prairie State College in January.
These events will focus the public’s attention on restorative justice approaches to conflict resolution and violence reduction by demonstrating how these programs work in school and community settings, and explain how to implement them successfully. Restorative justice builds safe communities by holding youth accountable, developing responsible behaviors, restoring and respecting victims, and empowering communities to meet the obligation …

When Debra Boyd was named Chief of Police and Director of Public Safety of the Governors State University Police Department this year she realized she was making history.

“Experiencing the sculptures of the Nathan Manilow Sculpture Park on a moonlit night can reward visitors with a unique perspective,” said Geoffrey Bates, director and curator of the sculpture park which is located on the campus of Governors State University. “The subtle light combined with the gentle crunch of snow makes the whole park unfamiliar and new.”
On January 10, 2009, by the light of the full moon, visitors will be able to tour many of the sculpture parks’ nationally recognized pieces. Bates will lead the tour, providing insight on the works and the artists who created them. The fee …
