The City Of Great Peace : An Historical Study Of Stockton's Rural Cemetery, Delmar Martin Mccomb Jr.

University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations

One hundred years may or may not seem a long time. To the geologist, one hundred years is but a moment. To the historian it may represent a convenient yardstick to measure events or empires. To the average individual, one hundred years may seem a short time when history tells us that old world civilization was brought to the shores of California in 1542 by Cabrillo, and the first Franciscan mission was established in 1769. One hundred years is a long time When it includes such a period of phenomenal events as mankind has experienced in the past ten decades. …

A Study Of The Alkaloids Of Narcissus Pseudonarcissus, Amaryllidaceae, Cisco Kihara Jan 1961

A Study Of The Alkaloids Of Narcissus Pseudonarcissus, Amaryllidaceae, Cisco Kihara

University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations

The studies and preliminary screening results reported in this paper developed from an initial interest in what appeared to be mildly toxic qualities of the bulbs of the common daffodil, Narcissus pseudonarcissus, Amaryllidaceae. The literature consulted does not shed much light on the mechanisms of the toxic agent or agents, and there appear to be some inconsistencies in respect to the alkaloids extracted. Part of this may be the result of differences in method of extraction, or perhaps lack of agreement on the identity of the actual plant bulbs used as a source of alkaloids. In regard to the chemical …

Studies Of Cardiovascular Energy Changes Occurring With Drug Administration Under Normal Acid Base Balance And During Hypercapnia, Ischemia, And Metabolic Acidosis, Earl E. Aldinger

MUSC Theses and Dissertations

Reflex autonomic changes occurring with the use of cardiovascular drugs may, as a side effect, increase cardiac work and oxygen demand. Improvement of coronary flow and/or a decrease in myocardial work load without increasing oxygen utilization are the desired effects of drugs used in the treatment of coronary insufficiency. The improvement of cardiac function is the purpose of drugs used in the treatment of heart failure. In either case the therapeutic effect may be accomplished through a direct myocardial effect and/or a decrease in cardiac pressure work load through extracardiac action. Through animal experimentation and patient correlation of the many …

Three general divisions of book of mormon prophecy can be made: (1) prophecies which relate to the period of time prior to the year 421 A.D., the approximate date of the final writing on the plates of Mormon, (2) prophecies which relate to the period 421 to 1830, the publication date of the Book of Mormon, and (3) prophecies which relate to the period 1830 onward.
The first …

A Study Of Childhood Experiences Of Physicists, Lds Seminary Teachers And Outstanding Competitive Athletes, A. Garr Cranney Jr.

Theses and Dissertations

Theories of vocational choice are of current and vital interest to the counseling profession. Roe's theoretical work based on the Freudian assumption that occupational choice is related to family atmostphere has particularly stimulated recent research in this area. This study similarly follows her theory and employs Dr. Nachmann's techniques who tested comparable hypotheses with different groups in 1957.

The problem of this study was to determine if there were certain differences in the childhood experience of physicists, L.D.S. seminary teachers, and outstanding competitive athletes. Fifteen B.Y.U. students were interviewed in each group, the interviews following the items of a questionnaire. …

A Study Of The Attitudes Toward And Understandings Of Temple Marriage Of A Selected Group Of Seminary Students In The Alpine School District (Utah), Jerald Ray Johansen

Theses and Dissertations

The objective of most religious teachings and concepts is to change the student's attitude that desirable behavior may follow. The measurement of attitudes and the way people feel about certain religious concepts are, to an extent, determinative of their behavior. This realization has brought about a steady growth within the educational field of attitude and opinion measurement. It has also influenced religious educators to investigate this field in their efforts to get people to attain desirable religious goals.

The problem, investigated in the present research, was concerned with whether the youth of seminary age in the Church of Jesus Christ …
