A Study Of Comparable Identifiably Predictions Of Some Resolving Power Targets By Fourier Spectra Considerations, James Greene Jan 1983

A Study Of Comparable Identifiably Predictions Of Some Resolving Power Targets By Fourier Spectra Considerations, James Greene

Theses

This report documents a study conducted to examine the correlation between identification thresholds and difference spectra of some resolving power target characters. The experiment included the USAF Tri-bar target, the RIT Alpha-numeric Resolving Power Target, and a set of targets called the Granger Modified Tri-bar targets. Assuming that target identification is a filtering process and primarily a function of its frequency spectrum, this study began with a prediction of targets that would have equal identification thresholds from difference spectra considerations. Target images were viewed at various sizes to confirm/refute the original hypothesis. The USAF targets demonstrated adequate control of experimental …

The Need For And The Value Of A Gifted Education Program In The Desoto, Missouri School District, Norma J. Hoelzel

Theses

The substance of this project is a discussion of the need for and the value of a gifted education program in the schools of De Soto, Missouri . As a teacher in the elementary schools of this district for eight years, I have seen the need for such a program time and again, as I watch the gifted children who pass through my classroom struggle for acceptance and identity among his or her peers. I have tried to establish this evident need based on the very uncertain scores of our achievement tests, which at this time, is the only basis …

Motivation, Management Motivation, And Its Perceived Decline In American Bureaucratic Organizations In The Context Of Changing Attitudes And Values, Jon Lawrence Johnson Jan 1983

Motivation, Management Motivation, And Its Perceived Decline In American Bureaucratic Organizations In The Context Of Changing Attitudes And Values, Jon Lawrence Johnson

Theses

This Culminating Project represents an inquiry into the existence, applications, and parameters of human motivation and its impact on perceived management attitudes, values, and motivation to manage.

The topic is examined from three vantage points. Part I embodies a selective indoctrination in human motivation concepts and suggests relevant organizational applications and examples in illustration. The term "motivation" has evolved into a popular but often misapplied catch phrase. Therefore, a foundation in prominent human motivation theory is provided as precedent to issues subsequently discussed in the Project, to offer the reader an accurate base of subject knowledge.

Part II addresses the …

Accounting For Foreign Currency Translation Gains And Losses: A Comparison Of The Temporal Method Fasb #8 And Fasb #52, Richard J. Lee Jan 1983

Accounting For Foreign Currency Translation Gains And Losses: A Comparison Of The Temporal Method Fasb #8 And Fasb #52, Richard J. Lee

Theses

A culminating project in accounting is somewhat different than one that might be undertaken in other disciplines. While accounting is generally considered to be about numbers and therefore straightforward in application , there exist prescribed principles, procedures , and statements that must be adhered to by accountants . Viewing the discipline from this perspective the door is opened to vast areas of discussion and interpretation of accounting methods.

This paper compares three methods of treating foreign currency translation gains and losses , and the effect on reported earnings . It was written to accomplish three objectives.

  1. To present sufficient background …

The Closing Of Homer G. Phillips Hospital And Its Effect On The Infant Mortality Rate Of The City Of Saint Louis, Charles E. Crawford

Theses

The infant mortality statistics in any country reflect the social and economic well-being of its citizens. In the United States the infant mortality rate is regarded as a key indicator of the level of health of the population and by implication, as a measure of the effectiveness of the nation's health delivery system. Further , it is believed by some that infant mortality is the single most important public health problem in this country.

The effect on the infant mortality rate as related to the closing of the only acute care public hospital in an economically depressed community is observed …

Quality Control Circles And The United States, Herbert M. Hart Jan 1983

Quality Control Circles And The United States, Herbert M. Hart

Theses

The Quality Control Circle attempts to solve management and production problems using a participative management style. This study represents an analysis of how the Quality Control Circle emerged in Japan and efforts in the U. S. to Americanize the concept. It is important to note that participative management represents a single management style. This style is not recommended for every organization. Organizations must select the appropriate management style to accomplish conceived goals and the style must fit within their particular corporate culture. The Quality Control Circle is an outgrowth of participative management and is not-all inclusive of participative management ideals.

Flow Tube Reactions Of Selected Chlorocarbons With Molecular Hydrogen Or Water Vapor In A Microwave Induced Plasma Reactor, Robert Benedict Barat Jan 1983

Flow Tube Reactions Of Selected Chlorocarbons With Molecular Hydrogen Or Water Vapor In A Microwave Induced Plasma Reactor, Robert Benedict Barat

Theses

The reactions of various chlorinated hydrocarbons with molecular hydrogen or water vapor have been studied in a microwave plasma tubular flow reactor. The investigation of such reactions is desirable because the often toxic parent chlorocarbons are transformed to more thermodynamically stable and relatively non-toxic products by removal of' chlorine atoms as hydrogen chloride. Present detoxification technologies generally employ thermal oxidation as a means of disposal of chlorocarbons, which does not offer a thermodynamically stable sink for the chlorine atoms.

The experimental apparatus included feed introduction systems, a microwave plasma reactor, and full product analyses. The feed systems enabled use of …
