Eccentricity Fault Diagnosis In A Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor Under Nonstationary Speed Conditions, Mustafa Eker, Mehmet Akar

Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences

Electric motor faults decrease production capacity and increase maintenance costs. Today, predictive detection based on real-time monitoring and fault detection is taking the place of periodic applications. In this study, a new method is presented for the detection of eccentricity faults in permanent magnet synchronous motors. The motor current and the rotor speed were monitored under stationary and nonstationary speed and different load conditions, after which the fault detection was carried out via angular domain-order tracking method. The obtained results were compared with traditional fast Fourier transform results. It was observed that the suggested method can successfully detect the fault …

Image Compression Algorithm With Reduced Blocking Artifacts, Kritika Mittal, Kulbir Singh, Neeru Jindal Jan 2017

Image Compression Algorithm With Reduced Blocking Artifacts, Kritika Mittal, Kulbir Singh, Neeru Jindal

Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences

The modern communication era has led to a proliferation of digital media contents. However, the large volume of data poses difficulties because of increased bandwidth and limited storage space. Hence, this has led to the need for compression techniques. Image compression with block processing allows the coder to adapt to local image statistics and exploit the correlation present among neighboring image pixels. The main degradation factor of block transform coding is blocking artifacts (visually undesirable patterns) at high compression ratios. The degradation occurs because of coarse quantization of the transform coefficients and the independent processing of the blocks. In this …

Intrusion Detection In Network Flows Based On An Optimized Clustering Criterion, Jaber Karimpour, Shahriar Lotfi, Aliakbar Tajari Siahmarzkooh

Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences

Graph-based intrusion detection approaches consider the network as a graph and detect anomalies based on graph metrics. However, most of these approaches succumb to the cluster-based behavior of the anomalies. To resolve this problem in our study, we use flow and graph-clustering concepts to create a data set first. A new criterion related to the average weight of clusters is then defined and a model is proposed to detect attacks based on the above-mentioned criterion. Finally, the model is evaluated using a DARPA data set. Results show that the proposed approach detects the attacks with high accuracy relative to methods …

Mobility And Load Aware Radio Resource Management In Ofdma Femtocell Networks, Mohammad Zarei, Behrouz Shahgholi Ghahfarokhi, Mehdi Mahdavi

Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences

Recent evolutions in mobile networks have led to increased resource demands, especially from indoor users. Although recent technologies such as LTE have an important role in providing higher capacity, indoor users are not satisfied adequately. Femtocell networks are one of the proposed solutions that support high data rates as well as better indoor coverage without imposing heavy costs to network providers. However, interference management is a challenging issue in femtocell networks, mainly due to dense and random deployment of femto access points (FAPs). Therefore, distinct radio resource management (RRM) methods are employed to ensure acceptable levels of call dropping/blocking probability …

A Hybrid Of Sliding Mode Control And Fuzzy Logic Control Using A Fuzzy Supervisory Switched System For Dc Motor Speed Control, Husain Ahmed, Abha Rajoriya Jan 2017

A Hybrid Of Sliding Mode Control And Fuzzy Logic Control Using A Fuzzy Supervisory Switched System For Dc Motor Speed Control, Husain Ahmed, Abha Rajoriya

Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences

In many applications of DC motor speed control systems, PID controllers are mostly used. Such control schemes do not show good performance when input and load torque disturbances are applied. This paper shows that sliding mode (SM) can give better control due to its robust property but it has an unwanted chattering problem associated with it, which is harmful to the plant. To limit this problem a hybrid controller is presented in which a fuzzy controller is combined with the SM controller by a fuzzy supervisory system in such a way that the SM controller works in transient state and …

New Use Of The Hits Algorithm For Fast Web Page Classification, Mohamed Nadjib Meadi, Mohamed Chaouki Babahenini, Abdelmalik Taleb Ahmed

Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences

The immense number of documents published on the web requires the utilization of automatic classifiers that allow organizing and obtaining information from these large resources. Typically, automatic web pages classifiers handle millions of web pages, tens of thousands of features, and hundreds of categories. Most of the classifiers use the vector space model to represent the dataset of web pages. The components of each vector are computed using the term frequency inversed document frequency (TFIDF) scheme. Unfortunately, TFIDF-based classifiers face the problem of the large-scale size of input data that leads to a long processing time and an increase in …

Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences

A comparative study between a conventional DC-link voltage control algorithm (CDVCA) and a self-charging DC-link voltage control algorithm (SDVCA) is presented. It focuses on the principle operation of both algorithms and their impacts on the performance of a shunt active power filter (SAPF) operation. All analyses are based on the step response of DC-link voltages under different start-up times of the SAPF and different initial DC-link voltage values. Other considered parameters are the ripple factor (RP) of DC-link voltages, estimated and measured DC-link charging currents, and total harmonic distortion (THD) value of supply currents. Thus, this study provides new insights …

Compact Magneto-Dielectric Resonator Mimo Antenna For Angle Diversity, Kumar Mohit, Vibha Rani Gupta, Sanjeev Kumar Rout

Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences

This paper presents a two-element MIMO antenna configuration designed using magneto-dielectric (MD) material. The MD material has been designed such that its temperature coefficient value approaches zero. The microwave dielectric constant and permeability of the material is calculated by Nicholson-Ross-Weir conversion technique and found to be 8.02 and 1.64, respectively. Each element is designed so that it can operate at 5.71 GHz. The two elements of the MIMO configuration are separated by quarter wavelength and half wavelength and are compared. The designed antenna can give a quad-directional radiation property, which can be utilized for the diversity scheme.

Sum Rate Enhancement And Interference Alignment For Mimo Channels, Sarmad Sohaib, Faqir Najam-Ul-Hassan, Junaid Ahmed

Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences

Interference alignment (IA) is a cooperative technique used for multiple-input, multiple-output (MIMO) interference channels to confine the interference to a reduced signal space of the receiver. IA helps all nodes of the network to achieve half of the degree of freedom that can be achieved if there were no interference. In this paper an iterative alternating minimization algorithm is presented, which aims at providing the higher sum rate along with IA for more than three users having complete channel state information. In each iteration of the algorithm precoders and decoders are calculated to align interference in a reduced interference subspace. …
