How To Manage Pseudoangiomatous Stromal Hyperplasia: Our Clinical Experience, Emi̇ne Kurt, Sevi̇m Turanli, Fatma Markoç, Ali̇ Uğur Berberoğlu

Turkish Journal of Medical Sciences

Background/aim: Pseudoangiomatous stromal hyperplasia (PASH) is a rare and benign mesenchymal proliferative breast lesion. Our aim is to review the clinical and radiological features of PASH and define a standard approach for its diagnosis and management. Materials and methods: Clinical records of 35 consecutive patients with PASH were retrospectively reviewed between 2009 and 2015. Patients with clinically or radiologically detected mass and patients who underwent biopsy for other indications and were diagnosed incidentally were included in the study. Results: There were 34 female patients and one male patient with gynecomastia. Twenty-three patients had palpable masses, and 16 of them were …

Bovine respiratory disease (BRD) is the main reason for economic loss in feedlots. A cross-sectional study was conducted in order to detect the pathogens involved in BRD. A total of 88 animals with respiratory signs were sampled for diagnosis using PCR. The detected pathogens were bovine respiratory syncytial virus (80.6%), Mannheimia haemolytica (79.5%), Pasteurella multocida (68.1%), parainfluenza 3 virus (23.8%), bovine herpes virus-1 (20.4%), and bovine viral diarrhea virus (11.3%). The average number of treatments applied per animal was 1.3 with an estimated treatment cost of 16 USD per treatment/animal. Animals receiving more than one treatment averaged costs exceeding 38 …

Development Of Leptospiral Outer Membrane Protein-Based Dot-Elisa Assays And Immunoprofiling For Diagnosis Of Acute Canine Leptospirosis, Vamshi Krishna Sriram, Siju Joseph, Ambily Ramachandran, Mini Mangattumuruppel Jan 2017

Development Of Leptospiral Outer Membrane Protein-Based Dot-Elisa Assays And Immunoprofiling For Diagnosis Of Acute Canine Leptospirosis, Vamshi Krishna Sriram, Siju Joseph, Ambily Ramachandran, Mini Mangattumuruppel

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

The present study was carried out to evaluate outer membrane protein (OMP)-based relatively simple dot-ELISA assays for the diagnosis of acute canine leptospirosis and to identify the differential expression of leptospiral OMPs for identifying the markers of acute infection, if any. Among 91 canine serum samples screened, 63 samples were found to be positive by MAT. All the samples were tested by OMP-based IgM and IgG dot ELISAs. The sensitivities of IgM and IgG dot ELISA in comparison to MAT (titer: ≥1:400) were found to be 100%, whereas the specificities were found to be 89.71% and 45.31%, respectively. IgM and …

Iris Nevus Diagnosis: Convolutional Neural Network And Deep Belief Network, Oyebade Oyedotun, Adnan Khashman Jan 2017

Iris Nevus Diagnosis: Convolutional Neural Network And Deep Belief Network, Oyebade Oyedotun, Adnan Khashman

Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences

This work presents the diagnosis of iris nevus using a convolutional neural network (CNN) and deep belief network (DBN). Iris nevus is a pigmented growth (tumor) found in the front of the eye or around the pupil. It is seen that racial and environmental factors affect the iris color (e.g., blue, hazel, brown) of patients; hence, pigmented growths may be masked in the eye background or iris. In this work, some image processing techniques are applied to images to reinforce areas of interests in them, after which the considered classifiers are trained. We describe the automated diagnosis of iris nevus …

Development Of Multiplex Rt-Pcr For Detection And Differentiationof Foot-And-Mouth Disease Virus O And A Serotypes In Turkey, Beyhan Sareyyüpoğlu, İbrahi̇m Burgu Jan 2017

Development Of Multiplex Rt-Pcr For Detection And Differentiationof Foot-And-Mouth Disease Virus O And A Serotypes In Turkey, Beyhan Sareyyüpoğlu, İbrahi̇m Burgu

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

In this study, a two-step multiplex reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (mRT-PCR) was developed and evaluated using designed primers for the simultaneous detection and differentiation of Turkish foot-and-mouth disease virus (FMDV) serotypes A and O from clinical samples. In the method, a mix of one universal reverse primer designed from the 2B gene and two serotype-specific forward primers designed from the hypervariable regions of the capsid VP1-1D coding gene of FMDV were used. Totally, 272 FMDV-infected samples collected between 2006 and 2008 constituted the material of the study. mRT-PCR was compared to ELISA in terms of positivity percentage (%) and the …

Turkish Journal of Medical Sciences

Background/aim: Strongyloides stercoralis causes life-threatening hyperinfection or disseminated strongyloidiasis in immunocompromised patients such as HIV-positive, organ transplantation, and cancer patients. This study investigated the presence of strongyloidiasis in immunocompromised patients for the first time in Turkey. Materials and methods: Serum and stool samples were collected from 108 patients (25.9% of them were chronic renal failure and 74.1% were renal transplantation patients) who were admitted to Ege University Medical School in İzmir, located in western Turkey. Serum samples were analyzed by ELISA (DRG, Germany) and the presence of 18S rRNA gene of S. stercoralis was detected in stool samples by real-time …
