This study examines the effectiveness of the Circle of Friends (COF) program in improving social skills of elementary students using 3 case studies. Social skills groups utilized a cognitive-behavioral approach and problem solving sessions. Groups were heterogeneous in nature, including regular education and special education students. Students serving as targets for intervention were identified as having a disability, as well as exhibiting poor social skills according to their classroom teachers. Using data from the Survey of Asset and Health Dynamics Among the Oldest-Old, Wave 1, 1993, the differences between elderly parents and childless elderly in the sources of assistance that are available to them and utilized by them are examined. Parental status is examined for its effect on sources of assistance with activities of daily living (ADLs), instrumental activities of daily living (LADLs), expected sources of future support with ADLs/LADLs, residence in a building or community which provides personal care services and with financial management. This study examines the effects on third grade urban students when taught the social studies curriculum integrated with discipline-based arts curriculum. Three students were randomly chosen to represent high, moderate, and low ability levels. This is a qualitative research project using a triangulation of data, namely observation, interview, and analysis of products. The findings suggest that the integration of a discipline-based arts curriculum with a social studies curriculum enhances student learning, interest, and production. This method also allows students and teachers to identify learning styles and specific intelligences.

This study investigated sixth-grade students' academic and personal responses to self-selection in the spelling curriculum. Student participants were from a public elementary school classroom located in a Midwest urban school district. A combination of qualitative and quantitative methods of a non-emergent design was used. The students were considered as one group using an A-B-A research format, and as eleven independent case participants. The researcher used a two-tailed t-test and constant-comparative method for analysis of the collected data. The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of musical and non­ musical presentations on vocabulary acquisition by English as second language (ESL) students. Subjects (N=16) were second-grade ESL students at Belle Ryan Elementary School of Omaha Public Schools. A pretest/posttest control group design was used. Each ribosome in E. coli is composed of two associated subunits, the 30s small subunit and the 50S large subunit, forming the translationally competent 70S ribosome. Ribosomal subunit association is a critical feature of all stages of translation. One proposal for subunit association involves rRNA-rRNA interactions between the 790 loop in 16S rRNA and the 2750 loop in 23S rRNA. Each of these sequences are highly conserved, and more intriguingly have the potential to form Watson-Crick base-pairs with each other. This study investigated the effect of accountability, responsibility, and identifiability on the quality of solutions generated to an ill-defined problem. Accountable participants provided written justification for their output, either the solution generation process (process accountability) or the solution generation outcome (outcome accountability). Participants perceived themselves as either sharing responsibility for solution generation with others (shared responsibility) or solely responsible for solution generation (sole responsibility). The purpose of the study is to investigate the Paralyzed Veterans of America (PVA) National Wheelchair Basketball Association (NWBA) Wheelchair Basketball Skills Test. The purpose was to determine a comparable relationship between the PVA/NWBA Wheelchair Basketball Skills Test and the skill level judgment of the experts and novices ranking. The study examined the wheelchair basketball skills of 90 athletes who attended the PVA/NWBA National Basketball Camp in Springfield, Massachusetts in 1997. The thesis is a study of the similarities between the protagonists comprising what is commonly referred to as Sam Shepards family trilogy, which includes Curse of the Starving Class, Buried child, and True West. Shepard won the Pulitzer prize for Drama for Buried Child in 1979. His plays have been produced on Broadway until Buried Child was revised in 1996. This study investigates the perceptions of principals, and regular and special education teachers working in public elementary schools in Nebraska relative to the inclusion of students with learning disabilities in regular education classrooms. An Inclusion Perceptions Survey, developed for this research, was mailed to 50 principals, 75 special educators, and 546 regular educators, a randomly selected sample representing approximately 5% of the Nebraska populations of these professional groups. The overall response rate was 47%, yielding 318 surveys for analysis. Previous research has shown that if an attorney reveals evidence to his or her case before the opposing attorney reveals the evidence, it will result in more favorable verdicts for his or her client. This study tested the most effective way for attorneys to reveal damaging evidence about their clients in opening statements by varying the amount of explanation the plaintiff's attorney gave of the damaging evidence. This qualitative analysis investigates eight sets of African American youth (16 students). Student sets were from same households and attended the same high school. Subjects were administered a 21-item paper and pencil survey to determine 1) if they have a familial value for education, and 2) what influences promote or negate that value, in tum encouraging or impeding college attendance. Accommodations utilized by SAT teams have been explored in order to determine the success of the problem-solving, pre-referral intervention process as an alternative to special education referrals and placement. The results of the current study reflect insignificant results in the decline of special education referrals. In addition, chi square results looking at the use of specific accommodations as well as interventions that match the reason for referral was not significant. A decline in behavior referrals, slightly lower or consistent academic referrals, and consistent combination academic/behavior referrals was also not supported. Pre-referral intervention teams did not produce well-designed interventions. Previous research, …
