The Fallacy Of The Revised Bretton Woods Hypothesis: Why Today’S System Is Unsustainable And Suggestions For A Replacement, Thomas I. Palley
The Fallacy Of The Revised Bretton Woods Hypothesis: Why Today’S System Is Unsustainable And Suggestions For A Replacement, Thomas I. Palley
PERI Working Papers
Dooley et al. (2003) have argued that today’s international financial system has structural similarities with the earlier Bretton Woods (1946 – 71) arrangements and is stable. This paper argues that the comparison is misplaced and ignores fundamental microeconomic differences, and that today’s system is also vulnerable to a crash. Eichengreen (2004) and Goldstein and Lardy (2005) have also argued that the system is unsustainable. However, their focus is the sustainability of financing to cover the U.S. trade deficit, whereas the current paper focuses on inadequacies on the system’s demand side. The paper concludes with suggestions for a global system of …

Diehard: Probabilistic Memory Safety For Unsafe Languages, Emery D. Berger
Diehard: Probabilistic Memory Safety For Unsafe Languages, Emery D. Berger
Computer Science Department Faculty Publication Series
Applications written in unsafe languages like C and C++ are vulnerable to memory errors such as buffer overflows, dangling pointers, and reads of uninitialized data. Such errors can lead to program crashes, security vulnerabilities, and unpredictable behavior. We present DieHard, a runtime system that tolerates these errors while probabilistically maintaining soundness. DieHard uses randomization and replication to achieve probabilistic memory safety by approximating an infinite-sized heap. DieHard’s memory manager randomizes the location of objects in a heap that is at least twice as large as required. This algorithm prevents heap corruption and provides a probabilistic guarantee of avoiding memory errors. …
Light Baryon Magnetic Moments And N ->Delta Gamma Transition In A Lorentz Covariant Chiral Quark Approach, A Faessler, T Gutsche, Br Holstein, Ve Lyubovitskij, D Nicmorus, K Pumsa-Ard
Light Baryon Magnetic Moments And N ->Delta Gamma Transition In A Lorentz Covariant Chiral Quark Approach, A Faessler, T Gutsche, Br Holstein, Ve Lyubovitskij, D Nicmorus, K Pumsa-Ard
Physics Department Faculty Publication Series
We calculate magnetic moments of light baryons and N→Δγ transition characteristics using a manifestly Lorentz covariant chiral quark approach for the study of baryons as bound states of constituent quarks dressed by a cloud of pseudoscalar mesons.
Factorization In Graviton Scattering And The "Natural" Value Of The G Factor, Br Holstein
Factorization In Graviton Scattering And The "Natural" Value Of The G Factor, Br Holstein
Physics Department Faculty Publication Series
The factorization property of graviton scattering amplitudes is reviewed and shown to be valid only if the natural value of the gyromagnetic ratio gS=2 is employed—independent of spin.
