Design Considerations In Food Irrigation, Hans G. Jepson
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Flood-irrigation is primarily a system of irrigation which utilizes a part or all of the surface run-off is diverted from contributing watersheds and distributed over the fields by dikes or ditches. Diversion is accomplished through the use of a dam or of dikes if the volume of water diverted is not too great. There are thousands upon thousands of fertile acres throughout the arid and semi-arid regions of the Great Plains which could be materially benefited if bolstered by a little additional rainfall. It is not possible to increase the normal precipitation over the area , but it is possible, …

The Study Of Relief Map Construction And The Construction Of A Relief Map Of The Mt. Katahdin Area In Maine, Winston Churchill Robbins
The Study Of Relief Map Construction And The Construction Of A Relief Map Of The Mt. Katahdin Area In Maine, Winston Churchill Robbins
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
The project of the construction of a relief map of the Mt. Katahdin area is a step toward the construction of a relief map of the State, by serving to create added interest in such a project and to solve some of the technical problems. The Mt. Katahdin area was chosen for this project because topographical data was available for building a relief map of Maine’s most prominent topographic feature and because of the familiarity of the writer with this section.
The Effects Of Temperature And Pressure Variation On The Process Of Cooking Foods, Benjamin M. Aldrich
The Effects Of Temperature And Pressure Variation On The Process Of Cooking Foods, Benjamin M. Aldrich
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
It is generally known that water has a definite boiling temperature for each pressure to which its surface is subjected and that wet steam generated in a closed vessel maintains a definite temperature-pressure relation. Under each condition of temperature and pressure the steam contains a fixed amount of available energy stored as heat and called, "Heat Content" the value of which is usually based upon an arbitrary zero fixed a 32 degrees F., the freezing temperature of water under one atmosphere of pressure.

A Plant Efficiency Survey And Experimental Plant Results Obtained At The Sioux Falls Sewage Treatment Plant, Sioux Falls, S.D., Lowell A. Yost, Hans Jepson
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
"Sioux Falls, the largest city in South Dakota is situated on a bend in the Sioux River. The flow of this river ranges from a recorded minimum flow or 9 to a maximum flood flow of 500 cu. ft. per second. As originally designed and built the sewage system emptied into the river at three main outlets. In 1910 the City had a population of approximately 14000 people, and during the next decade its population practically doubled. During this period of growth there was added to the industries of the City a large meat packing plant which has been steadily …

Stress Investigation And Design Methods For Composite Beams Consisting Of Concrete Slabs On Steel I-Beams, Hjalmer T. Person
Stress Investigation And Design Methods For Composite Beams Consisting Of Concrete Slabs On Steel I-Beams, Hjalmer T. Person
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
The term, reinforced concrete, as generally used, is applied to that type of construction in which steel rods are imbedded in concrete members. In these members the steel and concrete are considered to act as a unit and both are assumed to be effective in developing the resisting moment of the beam.
Discrepencies Of Theory As Against Empirical Results Of Critical Speeds Of Circular Cross Sectioned Shafting, Vern Kilpatrick
Discrepencies Of Theory As Against Empirical Results Of Critical Speeds Of Circular Cross Sectioned Shafting, Vern Kilpatrick
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
The scope of this thesis included computations and tests showing the first critical speeds of two shafts each 5/8" dia x 38" long one of C.R.S. and one of hard drawn brass. The purpose was to find and tabulate the discrepancies between the computed values for the critical speeds and the empirical values for critical needs.
A Traffic Survey Of The City Of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, George Everett Thompson
A Traffic Survey Of The City Of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, George Everett Thompson
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
How to control the traffic on the streets of our cities is becoming one of the most important problems of the present day. an urban community depends for its existence upon the transportation facilities both internal and external. The external transportation is necessary for a city's growth because food supplies and raw materials must be brought into the city and the commodities which are produced in the cities must be distributed to other places.
Bridge Survey Practice, R. B. Yule
Bridge Survey Practice, R. B. Yule
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
It is the intention in this paper to outline for general use the information that should be obtained in a survey for a proposed bridge in order that it may be designed with full knowledge of the conditions it must meet satisfactorily in service. The Manuals herein are written for conditions that exist in the Mississippi Basin and particularly the North Central States but will find general application with minor changes.
A Study Of "Black Liquor" From Soda Pulp, Chen Chi Pan
A Study Of "Black Liquor" From Soda Pulp, Chen Chi Pan
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
At the present time, practically all of the soft easy bleaching pulps used for the manufacture of high class book, magazine, general printing and cheaper writing paper are made by the Soda Process. Although the sulphite and mechanical process and to a less extent the Sulphate Process predominate, the Soda Pulp is remarkably well adopted for producing Pulp Fibres from any kind of wood or other fibrous material, no matter how resistant to chemical attack it may be.
Up to 1876, black liquor was run to waste. But since the River Pollution Act, it is treated to recover the soda, …
