Relationship Building For Evangelism Among English Language Learners In China, 2023 Biola University
Relationship Building For Evangelism Among English Language Learners In China, Ryan Jensen
Great Commission Research Journal
This empirical research revealed that relationship-building by missionaries among English language learners in China was a factor that facilitated their verbal communication of the gospel. For this study, I interviewed 15 missionaries who were identified by various leaders as being active in evangelism and who had shared the gospel with at least 10 Chinese people in the last year that they were on the field. Participants explained that they used the strategy of “funneling” interactions with Chinese individuals by narrowing down a large number of people with whom they had contact to a select few who were interested in spiritual …

Women: Radically Glorified, Oppressed, Or Set Free?, 2023 Liberty University
Women: Radically Glorified, Oppressed, Or Set Free?, Easton Finger
Senior Honors Theses
A woman’s identity in society has often been debated, starting from the beginning of time. The answer to this identity question has been sought in systems ranging from oppression, slavery, radical feminism, and over-exaltation of power. This thesis suggests that the value of women and their role is not found in those systems but in the knowledge of their Creator. Two questions will be posed, including how women’s identity has been previously defined and can a woman’s identity be found in her Creator God. The history of women in biblical times will be reviewed, as well as how Christ valued …
Legitimate Business As Mission Ventures And Effective Witness, 2023 Liberty University
Legitimate Business As Mission Ventures And Effective Witness, Summer Rogers
Senior Honors Theses
This thesis discusses the practice of missionaries creating cover businesses solely for visa purposes, which brings a dishonest presence and harms the ministry. In contrast, Business as Mission (BAM) is a strategic business model to bring the gospel overseas through social, economic, and spiritual impact. Through a literature review, best practices for legitimate BAM ventures are explored based on studies done by BAM professionals and experts. Research shows that Christian businesspeople can establish an authentic image and credible witness through BAM businesses that are integrated into the local community, generate a profit, and incorporate biblical principles into business operations. BAM …

Religious Orientation And Coping In Third Culture Kids, 2023 Messiah University
Religious Orientation And Coping In Third Culture Kids, Kayla Zerbe
Honors Projects and Presentations: Undergraduate
This study examines the correlation between religious orientation and religious coping in Third Culture Kids (TCKs). Young adult TCKs often struggle with their identity, mental health, and cultural adjustment during the reentry process. Despite the unique struggles TCKs experience, very little research has been done on this population. Religion may play a role in the reentry process as support, challenge, or way of coping. The present study examines religion in TCKs through the lens of motivation, using the Religious Orientation Scale (ROS), which measures intrinsic and extrinsic religious orientation, and the Brief RCOPE, which measures positive and negative religious coping. …
The Role Of Story In The Creation And Life Of Man, 2023 Liberty University
The Role Of Story In The Creation And Life Of Man, Leah Ginion
Senior Honors Theses
Story was created by God as a vehicle for the revelation and glorification of Himself. Man, made in the image of God, was created as an innate storyteller. The world was created through story, and story is how it progresses and is sustained. As such, story is the foundation of all culture and the most natural and effective method of human communication. Research points to all of man’s stories being derivatives of the Great Story: the metanarrative of Scripture. Exploring man’s relationship with story reveals his place within the metanarrative and ultimately provides evidence for the existence and active presence …

Classical Theism In John Wesley's Sermons, 2023 Andrews University
Classical Theism In John Wesley's Sermons, Francis Gayoba
Andrews University Seminary Studies (AUSS)
This article examines John Wesley’s sermons in order to assess whether his doctrine of God may best be classified in terms of strict classical theism or modified classical theism. His view of God’s nature is informed by his inherited Anglican theology, which is blended with his evangelical proclivities. Of relevance to the inquiry into Wesley’s theism are several key concepts: (1) the interrelated divine attributes of omnipotence, omnipresence, and omniscience; (2) divine eternity in relation to human time; and (3) divine love. Wesley’s sermons that discuss omnipotence, omnipresence, and omniscience appear to align closely with classical theism. However, in contrast …

Prugh, Daniel R. “The Dwell Bible Listening App as an Effective Tool to Habituate Daily Bible Engagement in the Local Congregation.” Doctor of Ministry. Major Applied Project, Concordia Seminary, 2023. "115" pp.
Congregational members desire to engage the Bible daily. However, oftentimes there are barriers to this goal. One of the most important barriers is that people do not regularly read. This is problematic if the church desires for people to read the Bible daily. In addition, people encounter a tsunami of information every day, that makes it hard to prioritize regular engagement with the Bible. However, the church can …
Constructing A Theological Framework That Revitalizes The Missional Nature Of Churches Of Christ In South Australia, 2023 Abilene Christian University
Constructing A Theological Framework That Revitalizes The Missional Nature Of Churches Of Christ In South Australia, Mark Daniel Riessen
Doctor of Ministry Theses
This thesis addresses the need for a theological framework that revitalizes the missional nature of Churches of Christ in South Australia. The problem identified within this ministry context was a lack of clear theological principles that informed a common understanding of identity for missional engagement. The purpose of the project was to create a study guide that informs common theological commitments and grounds congregations for missional vitality. A research and development team made up of seven Church of Christ ministers from different backgrounds was assembled to design a curriculum that addressed the problem. Through eight two-hour sessions over four months …

Salvation In Hinduism, Clifmond L. Shameerudeen
Journal of Adventist Mission Studies
The teachings of Hinduism have existed for thousands of years and continue to influence many cultures, especially those of South Asia. The philosophical teachings of Hinduism are complex and attractive to its adherents; however, the Hindu faith is easily misunderstood by many Westerners. Christianity as a religious institution was mostly developed in the context of a Western worldview. In contrast, Hinduism and its teachings are solely built on an Eastern philosophical and religious system dating back to the eighth century BCE. This article seeks to understand the teachings of salvation as found in the Bhagavad Gita and to contrast those …

Using Tonga Proverbs In Presenting Biblical Concepts, Johan Siachibila
Journal of Adventist Mission Studies
The Tonga tribe, located in the Southern part of Zambia, is rich in cultural communication. The Tonga people often use proverbs to communicate important ideas with each other, to solve problems among themselves, during common conversations, and when teaching Tonga children. They also are proud that their proverbs are a source of wisdom, with every phase of life having important proverbs attached to them. The Tongas have more than 500 proverbs, however, in this article I will only look at some of them to illustrate how they could be used in presenting biblical principles in the Tonga cultural setting. This …
