Objective

The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of cold applied the night before or in the morning on pain and symptoms of plantar fasciitis.

Design

Experimental study.

Methods

Thirty subjects with plantar fasciitis were recruited for this study. Subjects with plantar fasciitis either had no intervention, cold applied (20 minutes) at night before bed, or 20 minutes in the morning upon wakening. Plantar fascia tenderness and pain were evaluated. There were ten subjects in each group. Introduction: We quantified sub-maximal torque regulation during low to moderate intensity isometric hip flexion contractions in individuals with stroke and the associations with leg function. Methods: 10 participants with chronic stroke and 10 controls performed isometric hip flexion contractions at 5%, 10%, 15%, 20%, and 40% of maximal voluntary contraction (MVC) in paretic, non-paretic, and control legs. Results: Participants with stroke had larger torque fluctuations (coefficient of variation, CV), for both the paretic and non-paretic legs, than controls (Pr² =0.45) and Berg Balance Score (r²=0.38). The sex difference in marathon performance increases with age and place of the finisher, even at the elite level. Sociological factors may explain the increased sex gap, but there is limited empirical evidence for specific factors.

Purpose: The purposes of this study were to determine the sex difference in velocity for the marathon across the place of finisher (1st–10th place) with advanced age and (2) to determine the association between the sex difference in participation (ratio of men-to-women finishers) and the sex difference in running velocity.

Context: Therapeutic exercises are frequently prescribed to patients with low back pain. Numerous exercise programs for patients with low back pain have been described. Many of these treatment programs are based on 1 of 2 popular rehabilitation strategies: a motor control exercise approach or a general exercise approach.

Depression can affect the lives of all persons and can have especially profound implications on those with cognitive limitations; however, depression need not be an insurmountable roadblock to employment for persons with intellectual disabilities. Cognitive interventions - such as life story approach, socio-cognitive, and rational emotive behavior therapy-can be effective for litigating problems with depression among those with cognitive limitation including employment-related barriers due to depression. This article reviews how counselors can use cognitive interventions' behavioral and cognitive components to assist those with intellectual disabilities with depression.

Resistance exercise has great potential to aid in the management of breast cancer-related lymphedema (BCRL), but little is known regarding the acute response of performing resistance exercises with the affected limb. Purpose. To examine the acute impact of upper body resistance exercise on the amount of swelling and severity of symptoms in women with BCRL and to compare these effects between resistance exercise involving high and low loads (heavier vs lighter weights). Since initial reports in the mid-1980s, there has been increasing interest in the application of exercise as medicine for the prevention and management of cancer. A large number of high-quality, randomised, controlled trials with cancer survivors have confirmed both aerobic and resistance exercise to be highly beneficial for improving body composition, quality of life, mental health functional capacity and reducing risk of cancer recurrence and development of other chronic diseases. Such benefits have ultimately been realised in reduced cancer mortality between 30 and 60 % in large cohort retrospective studies. There are no definite conclusions for effective treatments on foot orthosis for high arch foot. The aim of this study was to assess the effectiveness of modified module insole on foot deformity and foot pain in high arch foot patients. This study recruited 81 adults whose arch index of ＞0.21with 37 in the orthosis group and 44 in the control group. All participants have no evidence of neurological deficits at legs, foot deformities and abnormal gait patterns. Eosinophilic fasciitis is a rare rheumatological disorder, with the clinical presentations of myalgia, symmetrical skin induration, and peripheral eosinophilia. Because of overlapping symptoms with other rheumatological disorders, early diagnosis of eosinophilic fasciitis is difficult. The confirmatory diagnosis relies on full-thickness skin biopsy. Imaging studies are also used for evaluation and diagnosis. Among them, high-resolution sonography has the advantage of high accessibility over other imaging modalities in detecting musculoskeletal disorder, but the sonographic features of eosinophilic fasciitis are rarely reported. Bardet-Biedl syndrome (BBS) is a rare inherited disease. Up to date, there have been 14 known BBS-related mutation genes, resulting in ciliopathy with multiple abnormalities such as obesity, pigmentary retinopathy, polydactyly, learning disabilities, poor coordination, renal dysfunction, diabetes and hypertension. This case was a 29-year-old male, who was diagnosed as Bardet-Biedl syndrome since childhood and then was followed up for control of complications. He suffered from stroke at age of 29. Risks of young stroke were surveyed. Poorly controlled hypertension, hyperlipidemia, hyperglycemia and hyperfibrinogenemia were noted. No other examination revealed abnormality.
