Rehabilitation After Glenohumeral Microfracture And Type Ii Slap Repair Surgery: A Case Report, Judson Williams, Eric Chaconas

Background and Purpose: There are few rehabilitation protocols for patients who have undergone glenohumeral microfracture procedure. The purpose of this paper is to present a patient case after both glenohumeral microfracture and Type II SLAP repair procedures and present a rehabilitation protocol.

Methods: The patient in this case is a 41-year-old male who had a sudden onset of pain, mechanical catching, and audible popping in his right shoulder, particularly with athletic activities. This patient was seen for 27 treatments and progressed per the presented protocol.

The anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) is one of the most commonly injured ligaments, with over 250,000 injuries per year in the United States. Previous studies have found that ACL-deficient individuals avoid use of the quadriceps in the injured limb as a means of limiting anterior movement of the tibia in the absence of a functioning ACL. From these results, a study was designed to investigate the effectiveness of isokinetic single-leg cycling in increasing quadriceps muscle recruitment and activation. Pulmonary rehabilitation (PR) is part of the recommended management plan of pulmonary hypertension (PHTN) and is important to better quality of life and exercise tolerance. This study aimed at determining effectiveness of PR on exercise capacity. Retrospective chart analysis was conducted on patients referred to our PHTN clinic for PR. Patients who had PHTN diagnosed on right heart catheterization (defined by mean pulmonary artery pressure>25 mmHg) and completed a standardized 12-week PR program were considered for the study. The purpose of this qualitative study was to gather information on individuals whom have contributed in expanding occupational therapy around the states of North Dakota, and Wyoming. The interview contained questions which helped to understand our individuals journey, and the contributions made to influence occupational therapy (OT) around the state of North Dakota. This project was completed through background research and a semi structured interview. The interview was audio recorded and then transcribed verbatim. Background: Shoulder pain is becoming increasingly problematic in young players as volleyball gains popularity. Associations between repetitive motion and pain and overuse injury have been observed in other overhand sports (most notably baseball). Studies of adult athletes suggest that there is a shoulder pain and overuse problem present in volleyball players, but minimal research has been done to establish rates and causes in juvenile participants.

Upon discharge from formal rehabilitation programs, individuals with chronic stroke are often constrained by physical limitations, leading to a diminished quality of life, participation restrictions, and an increased risk of further disability. (Rose et al, 2013) Community-based exercise (CBE) programs specific to individuals post-stroke may offer a mechanism to ameliorate these sequelae. (Pang et al, 2005) Current evidence supports the efficacy of CBEs in improving health-related outcomes, quality of life, and social participation post-stroke. (Lau et al, 2016)

Purpose: Adaptation to psychosocial aspects of hand injury is often undervalued, yet a critical issue to address in traumatic hand injuries (Schier & Chan, 2007). The purpose of this scholarly project was to develop a guide to address such factors in a hand therapy setting.

Methodology: A review of the literature was conducted to demonstrate the importance of hands, psychosocial implications related to hand trauma, and current strategies used by practitioners to address these problem. Total knee replacement, however, is not the complete answer to knee OA. Without rehabilitation these patients may struggle to be fully functional. The aim of this study was to discover how a movement program, utilizing principles of dance and sensory integration, effects motor and sensory outcomes for children with sensorimotor impairments. Participants' motor performance was assessed using the Bruininks-Oseretsky Test of Motor Proficiency prior to and following participation in the movement program. Additionally, sensory function was assessed using the Child Sensory Profile prior to participation, and sensory modulation was tracked throughout the program.
