Chronic pain affects almost one third of the world’s adult population and higher prevalence reported among older adults. Evidence suggests that chronic pain has undesirable consequences on physical, mental health and premature mortality. In lowand middle-income countries, there are limited studies examining the consequences of chronic pain on physical function and premature mortality. The aim of this study is therefore to determine …

New Author Guidelines In Statistical Reporting: Embracing An Era Beyond P < .05, Samantha Johnson, Whitley J. Stone, Jennifer Bunn, Scott Lyons, James W. Navalta

Kinesiology and Nutrition Sciences Faculty Research

Statistical reporting of quantitative research data has been plagued by potential bias and reporting suppression due to a single numerical output: the p-value. While there is great importance in its merit, creating a pass-fail system (set at point of .05) has created a culture of researchers submitting their project’s data to a filing cabinet if it does not yield “statistical significance” based on this value. The editors of the International Journal of Exercise Science are following the American Statistical Association’s call for statistical reform by adjusting our reporting guidelines to the following requirements: [1.] make an intentional effort to move …

Exploring Family-Centered Care From The Perspectives Of Home-Health Physical Therapists, James Mathews 2020 Walden University

Exploring Family-Centered Care From The Perspectives Of Home-Health Physical Therapists, James Mathews

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

Older adults may need, or desire, caregiver and family involvement to avoid hospitalizations and institutionalizations. The caregivers of these older adults have the highest rates of burnout, injury, and turnover. Family-centered care (FCC) involves collaboration between healthcare practitioners, patients, family members, and caregivers. FCC is both established and effective in pediatric care settings. There is a paucity of evidence on how FCC is applied to older adult populations. Home health physical therapists (HHPTs) work with older adults in their homes and train both family members on how to safely handle and manage the care-dependent older adult. The purpose of this …
