This article aims to critically review the current literature related to occupational therapy (OT) and colorectal cancer (CRC). The GVSU electronic library system was used to identify articles using keywords and MeSH terms related to CRC and OT. Articles were analyzed for key variables related to the OT scope of practice and were evaluated for quality using the Physiotherapy Evidence Database (PEDro) scale. Findings show that CRC was referenced in 76.47% of the 34 articles, OT in 20.59%, ADLs in 50%. Pain and quality of life (QoL) were explicitly measured in 17.65% of the articles. Of the reviewed articles, 52.94% …

While unhoused, persons who have experienced homelessness are frequently consumed with securing the necessary conditions to meet their basic needs including finding a place to stay for the night, finding food, and keeping safe. It is frequently assumed that when individuals secure a tenancy following homelessness, that their life naturally improves for the better in most or all areas of their lives. Unfortunately, recent research suggests that many individuals who secure housing after homelessness continue to live in a state of survival. While the importance of supporting individuals to secure and sustain housing cannot be understated, other aspects of a …

Adult
A survey, distributed to occupational therapy (OT) practitioners, was conducted to investigate how functional electrical stimulation (FES) is currently used during OT intervention sessions on clients with tetraplegia. There were a total of 24 survey respondents, the results demonstrated that both occupations and activities were used in combination with FES interventions. OT practitioners most frequently combined FES with the following occupation-based tasks during intervention sessions: feeding, grooming, playing a board/card game, and handwriting. During activity-based tasks, FES was reported to be most frequently combined with upperbody cycling, picking up foam cubes, and cones. Future research should focus on identifying the …

Qualitative Exploration Of Mealtime Routines And Parental Stress Of Children With Pediatric Feeding Disorders: Analysis Of Occupational Performance, Andrea Patino
Student Capstone Papers
Pediatric feeding disorders (PFD) affect approximately 25-35% of children with typical development, 40-80% of children with developmental disabilities, and 90% of children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). Feeding disorders affect families by disrupting mealtime routines, changing family dynamics, and increasing parental stress. Occupational therapy (OT) focuses on client-centered care that facilitates independence in meaningful occupations, including feeding and eating. OTs also play an essential role in assisting, training, and educating parents on effective mealtime strategies that can be implemented and carried over into the home environment. Few research studies show how parents manage behaviors and stress during mealtime routines, and …
