Introduction: Alcohol use disorder (AUD) is common among veterans and is associated with poor health outcomes. Although extended-release naltrexone (XR-NTX) is an effective treatment, maintenance injections at the VA Pittsburgh Healthcare System are only available at the main medical center, requiring many veterans to travel long distances each month.

Purpose: The purpose of this evidence-based practice policy analysis was to evaluate the feasibility of offering XR-NTX injections at Community-Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOC) and develop a policy recommendation to improve access to care.

Introduction: Cardiovascular diseases are a leading cause of pregnancy-related deaths in the United States, with higher rates in rural areas. While limited healthcare access contributes to this disparity, other factors remain unclear. Breastfeeding provides long-term protection against cardiovascular disease, but modern infant feeding practices are complex and may impact maternal cardiovascular health (CVH) in unexpected ways. Background: Social determinants of health (SDoH) significantly affect health outcomes and healthcare utilization, particularly in rural communities. In 2024, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services mandated SDoH screenings in the inpatient setting, with recommendation to implement in rural clinics without specifying a standardized tool, resulting in inconsistent identification of needs, e.g., food insecurity, housing instability, mental health concerns, financial strain, and transportation barriers.

Psoriasis is associated with an increased risk of major adverse cardiovascular events (MACE), and biologic therapy may reduce this risk by targeting systemic inflammation. However, limited data exist on whether long term MACE risk differs by biologic class or across racial groups. We conducted a retrospective cohort study to assess the risk of primary MACE in psoriasis patients receiving biological therapies, stratified by biological class, compared with biologic-naïve psoriasis patients. Whether MACE risk among biologic-treated patients varied by race was further examined. Research shows delayed diagnosis, limited access to ED specialists, and frequent denials for recommended services. To evaluate the association between county-level social vulnerability and preterm birth and assess whether racial disparities vary across levels of vulnerability.

Methods

This cross-sectional study utilized restricted Centers for Disease Control and Prevention natality data from 2023. We included Black or White births with singleton pregnancies across 3123 US counties from 50 US states and the District of Columbia. Participants were grouped into quartiles based on the county-level Social Vulnerability Index (SVI), with quartile 4 representing the most socially vulnerable populations. Emergency Medical Services (EMS) data is a timely surveillance method that captures more potential overdoses than hospitals by representing the pre-hospital setting. a systematic literature review the results of 29 published studies from 2020-2025 that met specified inclusion criteria. The review identified costs and benefits of traditional algorithms for treating this problem, as well as the trend in research to include the use of ketamine. Studies have demonstrated a potential association between the use of ketamine therapy and significant clinical improvement in depressive symptoms. However, the current efficacy of ketamine therapy compared to treatment as usual, side effects and contraindications have not been addressed.
