Review Of: Caring For The Low German Mennonites: How Religious Beliefs And Practices Influence Health Care—Judith Kulig, Christina Klassen Jeffries

Journal of Amish and Plain Anabaptist Studies

My personal interest in reviewing this particular book is that I am a Low German speaking Mennonite involved in healthcare. As a disclaimer, I am not super fluent in the language. I was also not technically raised in the culture as described in this book, but I live in this community and know many people in this culture. As a healthcare worker, I was interested in reading this book to see what would be applicable to my practice. I was also curious how the book would apply to living in the Low German community. [First paragraph.]

Nursing Care Of The Pediatric Patient With Autism, Cayley Frolik

Honors Capstones

The purpose of this project is to help educate current and future nurses on ways to understand and better connect with pediatric patients with autism. Standard nursing curriculum tends to focus primarily on the clinical approach for mainstream patients. In one short year, I recognized a glaring need for nurses to learn how to care for those with autism, as well as how to support and educate their families to create the best environment for whole success. It is very difficult to understand the needs of these specific patients without the proper toolkit. It is my intention to research and …

Medical Device Cybersecurity Risk Assessments: Engaging Clinicians To Mitigate Threat, Nicole A. Mohiuddin 2023 James Madison University

Medical Device Cybersecurity Risk Assessments: Engaging Clinicians To Mitigate Threat, Nicole A. Mohiuddin

Doctors of Nursing Practice (DNP) Final Projects, 2020-current

Much of healthcare practice relies on computers, data and the Internet. This is especially true in the use of medical devices which are connected to the Internet and require strong cybersecurity protocols to ensure their data is secure. Technical advances have resulted in transformations to health care delivery, which have the capacity and capability to improve patient care. A prime example is the increase in interconnectivity between medical devices and other clinical systems. This interconnectivity leaves medical devices vulnerable to security breaches in the same way other networked computing systems are vulnerable (Williams and Woodward, 2015). However, unlike other networked …

Sexually Transmitted Infection Prevalence In College Students With Urinary Tract Infection Symptoms: A Pilot Study, Kathleen Beigh

Doctors of Nursing Practice (DNP) Final Projects, 2020-current

Approximately one in five individuals in the United States has had a sexually transmitted infection (STI). Individuals between 15 to 24 years are considered a ‘higher risk’ for developing new STIs than other age groups. Many STIs are treatable but difficult to detect and carry significant health implications. Chlamydia and gonorrhea can be treated effectively with antibiotics if detected early. STIs are challenging to diagnose due to having few or no symptoms and often go undetected and untreated. A specific concern related to STIs is misdiagnosis as a lower urinary tract infection (LUTI) only in persons born with a vagina …
