Hydatid disease is caused by Echinococcus granulosus parasite. It affects most commonly the liver, followed by the lungs. Symptoms are not specific and can be produced by the mass effect or cyst complications. Early identification and treatment of the condition prevents mortality. We report a case of pulmonary hydatid cyst, where the patient presented with symptoms of fever, cough with expectoration, weight loss and dyspnoea. Final diagnosis was done based on chest radiography and Tomography scan findings and was successfully treated with right middle lobectomy and anti-helminthic drugs

Self-transcendence changes how older adults perceive themselves, their relationships with others, the material world, and the metaphysical or spiritual dimension. It is associated with multiple indicators of well-being. The purpose of this pilot study (N = 20) was to examine the feasibility and effectiveness of a psychoeducational intervention to increase self-transcendence and well-being of older adults. Data were analyzed using generalized estimating equations. All variables trended in the directions hypothesized. Self-transcendence increased in the intervention group and decreased in the control group but not significantly. The group × time interaction for life satisfaction was significant (z = 2.89, …

We respond to commentaries from the American Academy of Nursing, the American Association of Colleges of Nursing, and the National Institute of Nursing Research on our thoughts about integrating emerging areas of science into nursing PhD programs. We identify areas of agreement and focus our response on cross-cutting issues arising from cautions about the unique focus of nursing science and how best to proceed with incorporation of emerging areas of science into nursing PhD programs.

Obesity is a complex disease state that has challenged the health of Americans and has become a main concentration in health care. The highest rates of obesity are observed among black women. The purpose of this evidence-based review was to find evidence that specifically examined black women to determine if participation in weight loss interventions led to successful weight loss compared with usual care and control groups. Twelve experimental studies and 4 systematic reviews revealed that interventions contributed to successful weight loss among black women with obesity. However, maintenance of weight loss is an ongoing challenge.

Personalized health care that incorporates advance care planning and aligns treatment with patient-centered goals can improve the quality of life of dying individuals and reduce stress, anxiety, and depression in surviving relatives.1, 2 Although several prognostication indices that address all-cause mortality have been developed for use in elderly inpatients, none have been integrated into the electronic health record (EHR) to automatically identify high-risk individuals and used during interdisciplinary team rounds to identify vulnerable hospitalized adults.3 At Aurora Health Care in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, an automated alert for serious medical illnesses has been programmed into the EHR. Built on previous findings,4 the …

Background
Older youth in out-of-home care often live in restrictive settings and face psychiatric issues without sufficient family support. This paper reports on the development and piloting of a manualized treatment foster care program designed to step down older youth with high psychiatric needs from residential programs to treatment foster care homes.
Methods
A team of researchers and agency partners set out to develop a treatment foster care model for older youth based on Multi-dimensional Treatment Foster Care (MTFC). After matching youth by mental health condition and determining for whom randomization would be allowed, 14 youth were randomized to treatment …

The Family Caregiver's Experience: Examining The Positive And Negative Aspects Of Compassion Satisfaction And Compassion Fatigue Using A Stress Process Model, Susan Lynch
Nursing ETDs
Family caregivers significantly contribute to the provision of health care for their family members. This complex care can result in stress that may lead to both positive and negative consequences for the caregiver. Current literature tends to focus on negative consequences such as caregiver burden. Therefore, compassion fatigue and compassion satisfaction are proposed as concepts that may better reflect the family caregiving experience. Compassion fatigue is comprised of two components; burnout and secondary traumatic stress. The purpose of this study was to examine the concept of compassion fatigue and compassion satisfaction among family caregivers and to explore the relationship between …

Nutrition Support Nursing Handoff: A Computerized Template, Suzanne L. Bundrick
Theses and Graduate Projects
At a large Midwest private nutrition support practice, a manual reporting tool has been the communication practice used in daily handoff practices. For patients who require consultation from the Nutrition Support Consulting Service, accurate communication of the nutrition plan of care among members of the health care team is a critical element of patient care and safety. Because communication errors are a leading cause of sentinel events for patients, having a safe transfer of care from nurse to nurse each day is imperative. A nutrition support computerized handoff template not only creates continuity of care among team members, it also …
