Impact Of Health Information Technology Patient Education With "Teach-Back" On Patient Satisfaction And Hospital Readmissions, Judi Dunn
DNP Projects
Background: With the advances in medical care, patients are being asked to manage more complicated self-care regimens, and there is often a gap between what the nurse teaches and what the patient understands. This can lead to re-hospitalizations that are burdensome for patients and are costly to the American healthcare system. The Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) challenged healthcare organizations to leverage technology that engages patients in self-management support and encourages clinician use of patient-centered communication techniques, such as teach-back.
Purpose: The purpose of this project is to evaluate the use of health information technology along with an …

Nursing Papers and Journal Articles
During the summer break, semester two and four students from the Bachelor of Nursing at The University of Notre Dame Australia, Fremantle Campus, worked with the Fremantle Hospital and Health Service Accreditation Team to develop educational material for staff and visitors on the National Safety and Quality Health Service Standards (NSQHS) – especially standard 2.
This collaborative approach to provide a unique clinical placement, that intrinsically benefits the student and health service, reminds us that learning in today’s modern healthcare system should embrace areas of practice outside of the traditional clinical nursing role.

Low temperature is a major abiotic stress affecting crop growth and productivity. A better understanding of low temperature tolerance mechanisms is imperative for developing the crop cultivars with improved tolerance. We herein performed an Illumina RNA-sequencing experiment using two barley genotypes differing in freezing tolerance (Nure, tolerant and Tremois, sensitive), to determine the transcriptome profiling and genotypic difference under mild freezing shock treatment after a very short acclimation for gene induction. A total of 6474 differentially expressed genes, almost evenly distributed on the seven chromosomes, were identified. The key DEGs could be classified into six signaling pathways, i.e., Ca(2+) signaling, …

The Influence Of Self-Efficacy On Physical Activity In Older Adults With Diabetes, Heather Tonyaleigh Mcgee-Anderson
MUSC Theses and Dissertations
Diabetes affects million individuals within the United States with the highest prevalence in older adults. Physical activity has been shown to improve diabetes control; yet older adults are significantly less physically active than national recommendations suggest. Higher levels of self-efficacy have been shown to increase physical activity in many populations. Bandura’s theoretical framework of self-efficacy has supported that a higher level of self-efficacy correlates with higher levels of physical activity. The research for this dissertation first explored a gap in the literature regarding older adults with diabetes as it relates to self-efficacy and physical activity with an integrative review. This …

Theses and Dissertations
Insufficient sleep has emerged over the past few decades as a public health concern. As little as 1 to 2 hours of sleep loss can produce extreme fatigue and physiological drives similar to thirst and/or hunger which increases the risk of motor vehicle accidents, work related mistakes and injuries. Sleep restriction whether voluntary or involuntary has produced a culture of chronic sleep deprivation that can be seen throughout the population. Chronic lack of quality sleep has been shown to adversely affect cardiovascular health, cognitive function, memory, immune responses and hormonal regulation among other homeostatic functions. Sleep disorders represent the cause …
