Despite advancements in health care, hospice registered nurses and medical professionals caring for patients at end of life lack the required knowledge effectively to care for this patient population. Educational gaps contribute to deficiencies. This process improvement project aimed to increase nurses’ and medical staff’s knowledge and recognition of delirium at end of life through the use of a delirium assessment tool and evidenced-based treatment guideline when managing symptoms. Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists (CRNAs) are the main anesthesia providers in over 70% of rural hospitals providing anesthesia. Each year, over 2,000 student registered nurse anesthetists (SRNAs) graduate and continue as licensed CRNAs. This Doctor of Nurse Practice (DNP) project emphasizes the importance of developing culturally competent providers in anesthesia by promoting early outreach in cultural competence education of SRNAs. Health disparities and maintenance of strong cultural values and norms may adversely affect the Marshallese participation in the health care system. Evidence shows that cultural competency training can improve the attitudes, knowledge, skills and behaviors of health professionals and has many positive impacts. The current practice for the measurement of endotracheal tube (ETT) cuff pressure intraoperatively is subjective, potentially leading to negative consequences for patients. The purpose of this best practice project was to examine and synthesize the current evidence-based literature on measuring ETT cuff pressure and developed a policy recommendation for measuring ETT cuff pressure in the intraoperative setting by anesthesia providers. BACKGROUND: Weight gain is commonly observed post-kidney transplantation and is associated with unfavorable health outcomes, such as graft loss, new onset diabetes, and cardiovascular disease. The purpose of this study was to determine the most effective measure for assessing body composition after kidney transplantation.

DESIGN: The study was a descriptive correlational follow-up study from a single kidney transplant site.

SUBJECTS: A total of 45 eligible patients from a 2007-2011 parent study were selected, ages of 37 to 78.

Problem: Patient falls has been associated with increased morbidity, mortality and decreased quality of life. The increase in total patient falls for 2018 relative to 2017, and a spike of 10 patient falls for the month of June 2018 from a baseline of 5.3 falls per month has gained greater attention to reduce patient harm from falls while hospitalized. Faith Community Nursing sites were recently integrated into a Community/Public Health Nursing course at a traditional Catholic baccalaureate college in New England. Junior and senior nursing students were randomly assigned to spend 10 clinical days at a site for their clinical experience. The students planned, participated in, and conducted diverse nursing and educational activities. At the end of the rotation, students completed evaluations rating the experience. The purpose of this study was to identify high-priority problems experienced by individuals during the second and third month after discharge from an acute care facility for heart failure. This descriptive, exploratory study, an extension of a previous analysis that examined high-priority problems in the first month, comprised 19 participants who were assigned to an intervention group that received a randomized, 12-week-pilot coping partnership (COPE-HF) intervention. A trained research nurse provided the intervention, and participants used a standard list to identify high-priority heart failure-related problems. The National Association of Pediatric Nurse Practitioners (NAPNAP) supports the timely and complete immunization of all infants, children, adolescents, and adults in an attempt to maximize the health and wellbeing of all people. Routine childhood immunizations prevent as many as 3 million deaths per year. One of the most common and preventable complications experienced by patients undergoing general anesthesia is a postoperative sore throat (POST). Up to 70% of patients who receive a laryngeal mask airway (LMA) during anesthesia suffer from POST. Despite its regular occurrence and designation as a minor complication, POST has proven to be a distressing complication for patients afflicted.
