I presented an evidence-based project to a healthcare facility with interventions and a suggested policy change to help reduce nurse burnout. One suggested policy change I made was changing the staffing policy. Within this new policy I suggest that if the patient census was 25 patients it calls for 5 nurses, 17-20 patient calls for 4 nurses, 16 or less patients calls for 3 nurses; along with no calling off staff due to census but rather utilizing this staff as a float or resource nurse. Hospital readmissions within 30 days remain a major challenge for healthcare systems and are often linked to ineffective discharge communication and low patient health literacy. Improving discharge planning through simplified instructions, early education, and the teach-back method can help ensure patients understand their medications, follow-up care, and warning signs after leaving the hospital. Strengthening communication and care coordination during the transition from hospital to home may improve patient outcomes and reduce preventable readmissions.

Problem: Emergency departments (EDs) are increasingly utilized for mental health (MH) care, often resulting in overcrowding and delayed access to specialized services. A significant proportion of MH patients are discharged without a psychiatric consult, raising concerns about safety and readmission rates. Practice Problem: Nurses working in a general emergency department (GED) with a low (3.3%) pediatric patient volume expressed a lack of confidence caring for complex pediatric patients.

PICOT: In general emergency department nurses (P), how does participating in a pediatric simulation event (I), compared to current practice (C), affect nurse confidence scores caring for pediatric patients (O) over 6 weeks (T)?

Evidence: A review of over 17 evidence-based resources found good quality evidence that suggested participating in a simulation event can improve nurse confidence.

Background: Completing wound care consultations using digital technology is an uncommon practice in the acute care setting. Evidence suggests that virtual wound care consultations may decrease consultation completion times and improve departmental efficiency; however, evidence specific to the acute care setting remains limited.

Purpose: The purpose of this evidence-based practice, quality improvement project was to evaluate the feasibility and impact of implementing virtual wound care consultation in the acute care setting to improve departmental efficiency. Background

Building capacity of health professional educators in low- and middle-income countries can improve population health outcomes through upskilling the health workforce. However, education programs must respond to local contexts and challenges including participants’ needs and expectations, language difficulties, and resource limitations. This paper evaluates a program for nursing and community health worker educators in Papua New Guinea.

Methods

This qualitative descriptive study was designed and implemented using a collaborative partnership approach. It comprised six focus groups with 26 educators who were program participants. Thematic analysis examined participants’ perceptions of the program and their implementation of change projects.

A systematic review of the literature following PRISMA© (2020) was conducted to determine the evidence within nursing and higher education literature to support certification in online teaching and to determine the value of additional certification for nurse educators in higher education nursing programs. Data from CINAHL, ERIC, EBSCO, COCHRANE, AND PUBMED databases were collected following inclusion and exclusion criteria. An independent review by two authors was conducted with twenty-seven articles and one report identified. Prolonged in-room wait time in an outpatient orthopedic oncology clinic was identified as an important driver of dissatisfaction and operational inefficiency. Baseline in-room times in this setting were reported as M=96.2 minutes for patients receiving injections and M=92.9 minutes for those not receiving injections. Implementation of a Turn Team to Reduce Hospital-Acquired Pressure Injuries in a Medical Intensive Care Unit

PURPOSE

The project aimed to reduce hospital-acquired pressure injury (HAPI) rates in a Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU) by improving nurses' knowledge of the Braden Scale and implementing a structured two-nurse turn team workflow to reposition high-risk patients every two hours.

RESULTS

Repositioning compliance improved substantially and consistently exceeded the project goal of 90% after implementing a pod-based workflow. The HAPI prevalence rate decreased from a baseline of 8% to below the project goal of ≤5% during implementation but was not sustained in the …

Current staffing practices rely on floating nurses from other units during census fluctuations, creating skill mismatches, increased burnout, and risk for adverse events. The project was implemented at a healthcare institution in Houston, Texas. Our proposal seeks to develop and implement a standardized Charge Nurse Interest Survey which will create a structured process for identifying those most interested and best suited for the position of charge for all registered nurses on a local med-surg unit. Nurses on this unit are appointed and eligible to serve in the charge nurse role after six months of experience on the unit. Smoking is the number one cause of preventable illness and death in the United States. For patients undergoing cancer treatment, continued tobacco use poses serious risks. In surgical oncology, smoking is associated with poorer treatment outcomes, increased postoperative complications, delayed wound healing, and higher mortality. For patients requiring reconstructive surgery, smoking-related complications can be devastating, sometimes resulting in significant wound complications or loss of the reconstruction. Malnutrition affects approximately 43% of cancer patients nationally and is associated with missed chemotherapy appointments, treatment interruption, and poor clinical outcomes. At a 30-chair outpatient cancer center in South Texas, a retrospective chart review revealed that 45% of patients experienced malnutrition-related symptoms contributing to appointment disruptions. Establishing An Advanced Practice Provider-Led Transient Ischemic Attack Clinic: A Quality Improvement Initiative, Brittany A. Young

Background: Due to lack of subspecialized neurological care in many rural community settings, care in tertiary hospitals is in demand. Insufficient care pathways can lead to lack of bed and provider availability. Advanced Practice Provider Transient Ischemic Attack clinics have been shown to be safe alternatives to hospital admission, for patients who meet criteria. This study targeted practice change at a 1000 bed tertiary academic hospital.

Methods: The quasi-experimental study sample inclusion criteria included Transient Ischemic Attack patients presenting to the emergency department with an ABCD2 < 4, complete symptom resolution, and no new cardiac changes on monitoring. A pre and post survey with educational PowerPoint intervention was provided to all emergency department and Neurology providers and nurses. A Transient Ischemic Attack clinic was established with a corresponding order set to be utilized for streamlined outpatient work up.
