BACKGROUND: Burnout among nurse leaders is a growing concern, driven by increasing workload, operational demands, and challenges with work-life balance. Addressing burnout is critical to maintaining stability within the leadership team and to delivering high-quality patient care.

LOCAL PROBLEM: Prior to the development of the QI proposal, engagement survey results showed scores 0.11 points below the benchmark in leadership responsiveness, and more than 50 nurse leader positions have turned over in the past 5 years. This research examines the impact of night shift schedules on new nurses' mental health and work-life balance as they transition into professional practice. The transition from nursing school to the workforce presents challenges that are further compounded by shift work, which can disrupt circadian rhythms and contribute to stress, fatigue, and reduced job satisfaction. This quasi-experimental study evaluates if providing individualized follow-up care through self-care bags, follow-up phone calls, open communication for debriefing, and tailored mental health resources enhances support for obstetric staff and improves their ability to care for patients experiencing perinatal loss. Interventions were implemented from February 2024 to August 2024. A total of 103 self-care bags were distributed throughout the designated hospital systems’ two labor and delivery departments. Increased rural hospital closures and nursing burnout may lead to greater morbidity/mortality for rural residents. Current literature fails to capture whether rural hospital closures influence nurses’ intent to leave their current position. In this cross-sectional study, descriptive and correlational statistical analyses were conducted on survey responses from a sample of nurses who lived in a rural county that experienced a hospital closure. 66% of nurses stated that, at one point, they had considered leaving their primary nursing position. Logistic regression model results revealed that nurse-reported age and gender were significant predictors of a nurse’s intention to leave their current position. …

This quality improvement project addressed the problem of incomplete or unsustained clinical initiatives at a long-term care facility by introducing Kotter’s Change Model, an evidence-based framework designed to support and sustain lasting improvements in clinical practice. Within the context of a religious-based residential community for older adults with complex chronic needs, the objective was to strengthen the facility’s capacity to implement and sustain change more effectively. Objective: The objective of this project was to address the inconsistent understanding and utilization of the Diabetic Ketoacidosis (DKA) protocol in a high-acuity emergency department within a large hospital system, where baseline survey results showed that 84% of nurses found the DKA order set confusing and only 15% felt “very comfortable” applying it.

Introduction: Cancer is the second leading cause of death globally and the third leading cause of death in Kenya. Nurses in oncology units often experience stress because of the emotionally demanding nature of providing care for patients diagnosed with cancer. Global studies show that nurses in the oncology unit reported experiencing moderate to extreme work-related stress, with a prevalence of work stress globally varying between 9.2% to 68% globally. This project investigates whether current caregiving schedules at Deaconess Henderson Hospital’s NICU support adequate rest and development in preterm neonates. Adolescents' mental health has worsened and become a public health issue, with depression being a primary concern. There is an urgent need for early screening, school-based referral pathways, and interventions to address common problems in high schools. Patient Health Questionnaire-9 (PHQ-9) is a validated, evidence-based tool for detecting depression; however, its systematic use in school-based counseling settings through organized training has not been studied for implementation in high schools.
