Background: Healthcare is facing a significant nursing shortage. This shortage not only impacts bedside nurses but also nurse leaders. Succession planning is a method for recruiting, retaining, and building resilience among nurse leaders.

Purpose: This quality improvement project applied principles of succession planning, including leadership education, training, and assessment of leadership retention and resilience.

Methods: Two interventions were implemented in this quality improvement project. The first was an assessment of a modification in nursing leadership organizational structure that was made in 2024 with the purpose of improving succession planning. This evaluation was completed with the use of …

BACKGROUND: Burnout among nurse leaders is a growing concern, driven by increasing workload, operational demands, and challenges with work-life balance. Addressing burnout is critical to maintaining stability within the leadership team and to delivering high-quality patient care.

LOCAL PROBLEM: Prior to the development of the QI proposal, engagement survey results showed scores 0.11 points below the benchmark in leadership responsiveness, and more than 50 nurse leader positions have turned over in the past 5 years. New graduate nurses lack the appropriate clinical judgement to provide optimal, safe, quality care, as evidenced by the report of errors in health care (Rodziewicz et al., 2024). The purpose of this project was to provide an evidence-based intervention that used an unfolding case study and simulation to further develop clinical judgement among undergraduate nursing students in a rural ADN program. The project used a pre-test and post-test to measure students' improvement prior to versus after the learning experience and debrief. This quasi-experimental study evaluates if providing individualized follow-up care through self-care bags, follow-up phone calls, open communication for debriefing, and tailored mental health resources enhances support for obstetric staff and improves their ability to care for patients experiencing perinatal loss. Interventions were implemented from February 2024 to August 2024. A total of 103 self-care bags were distributed throughout the designated hospital systems’ two labor and delivery departments. Objective: The objective of this project was to address the inconsistent understanding and utilization of the Diabetic Ketoacidosis (DKA) protocol in a high-acuity emergency department within a large hospital system, where baseline survey results showed that 84% of nurses found the DKA order set confusing and only 15% felt “very comfortable” applying it.

Aim: The aim was to improve nurse clarity, confidence, and consistency in using the DKA protocol to support timely, evidence-based management of this high-risk, time-sensitive condition.

Increased rural hospital closures and nursing burnout may lead to greater morbidity/mortality for rural residents. Current literature fails to capture whether rural hospital closures influence nurses’ intent to leave their current position. In this cross-sectional study, descriptive and correlational statistical analyses were conducted on survey responses from a sample of nurses who lived in a rural county that experienced a hospital closure. 66% of nurses stated that, at one point, they had considered leaving their primary nursing position. Logistic regression model results revealed that nurse-reported age and gender were significant predictors of a nurse’s intention to leave their current position. …

This quality improvement project addressed the problem of incomplete or unsustained clinical initiatives at a long-term care facility by introducing Kotter’s Change Model, an evidence-based framework designed to support and sustain lasting improvements in clinical practice. Introduction: Cancer is the second leading cause of death globally and the third leading cause of death in Kenya. Nurses in oncology units often experience stress because of the emotionally demanding nature of providing care for patients diagnosed with cancer. Global studies show that nurses in the oncology unit reported experiencing moderate to extreme work-related stress, with a prevalence of work stress globally varying between 9.2% to 68% globally. Recently, there has been an introduction to remote video monitoring systems that are aimed at replacing the need for human sitters.
