Screening for perinatal depression is a recommended strategy aimed at prevention and timely management of mood disruption in pregnancy and the postpartum (ACOG, 2024). Screening for perinatal depression is often integrated in evidence-based home visitation curriculums. Background: Breastfeeding is the biological way to provide active and passive immunity, as well as necessary nutrients, to infants while concurrently providing multiple health benefits for mothers. Even though evidence is readily available to support the argument to breastfeed, United States’ breastfeeding rates fall below Healthy People 2030 goals. Postpartum depression (PPD) and anxiety are significant concerns for mothers with infants in neonatal intensive care units (NICUs); yet the role of parity in shaping these experiences remains underexplored. This cross-sectional secondary analysis examined data from 82 NICU mothers (62 adults, 20 adolescents) using the Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale and anxiety subscale. Findings revealed that primiparas and adolescents exhibited higher depression scores and multiparas and adolescents were more likely to experience anxiety symptoms. Parity, however, was not found to be a significant factor capable of predicting PPD or anxiety but results highlight the importance of early screening, personalized mental health …

The COVID-19 pandemic created increased psychological vulnerability across the globe through isolation, fear of infection, and misinformation from various sources, including social media. Women giving birth during the pandemic, therefore, may be extremely vulnerable psychologically. Per the World Health Organization, the years 2020 to mid 2021were designated as an intense time during the COVID-19 pandemic. Thus, the objective of this secondary analysis was to compare depression scores among women giving birth during these intense years and women giving birth before 2020. Background: Childhood obesity is becoming a predominant health concern with over 37 million children under the age of 5 being overweight. Instances of rapid weight gain in infancy correlate to greater risk for obesity later on in life.

Methods: This study aimed to look at feeding modality and style for their impact on maternal responsiveness to infant hunger cues and RWG. A database search identified 21 studies eligible to be included in the review out of 150.

This review was conducted to analyze the severity of long-term mental health deficits in parents and compare various nursing interventions that could decrease the incidence of these deficits. Purpose/Background

Globally, postpartum hemorrhage (PPH) is the leading cause of morbidity and mortality during the peripartum and postpartum period in delivering people. Emerging evidence suggests that combining second-line uterotonics with tranexamic acid (TXA) improves maternal outcomes, reduces blood loss, and lowers morbidity and mortality related to PPH (Jones et al., 2023; Al-dardery et al., 2023). TXA, an antifibrinolytic, enhances clotting, reduces blood loss, transfusion needs, hemoglobin drop, and the use of additional uterotonics (Bellos & Pergialiotis, 2021). Background: Midwives have provided care to women since the beginning of time. Early midwives had little training but learned their craft from experienced women. Later, formal training became available. Midwives have a rich history in Appalachia.

Purpose: to explore the rich history of all types of midwives in Appalachia.

Methods: Materials from the Archives of Appalachia were reviewed. Both written and oral materials were evaluated. This included a review of the document, identification of themes, and then comparing those themes with previously identified themes.
