The prevalence of depression during pregnancy in the U. S. is approximately 13%. Poor quality of the intimate partner relationship is significantly correlated with depression during pregnancy. The adverse effects of antenatal depression have been widely documented. The relationship between the intimate partner relationship and depression during pregnancy has not been well delineated in the literature. Little data exist regarding the impact of prenatal immune status on risk for postpartum depression. Due to limited evidence, there is a critical need to examine the relationship among trimester specific cytokines, quality of the intimate partner relationship, and antenatal depressive symptoms on risk …

Post-Discharge Coping Difficulty Scale (PDCDS)
The Readiness for Hospital Discharge Scale, Quality of Discharge Teaching Scale, and Post-Discharge Coping Difficulty Scale were developed by Dr. Marianne Weiss to measure nurse-sensitive discharge care processes and patient outcomes. Three versions of the scales were developed concurrently for different patient populations – Adult medical-surgical patients, Parents of hospitalized children, and Postpartum Patient mothers (see Weiss & Piacentine, 2006, Weiss et al., 2007, and Bobay et al., 2018 for description of the development and initial testing). Infants that are born near-term or before they reach their full gestational age of 40 weeks are at risk for facing future health problems and disparities in terms of proper development (Ladewig, London, & Davidson, 2012). This has been a major concern in the medical realm because of the high cost of managing preterm newborns and the complications that can develop. However, kangaroo care may aid in physical growth and cognitive development of these infants.
